🚨 Important Update on the Dutch Government’s Proposed Aviation Tax 🚨

The Dutch Government is considering increasing the aviation tax to raise €248 million by 2027, with a focus on long-haul flights due to their higher emissions. This proposal could lead to significant ticket price increases, potentially up to €100 more for flights to and from the Dutch Caribbean. ✈️

At Princess Juliana International Airport (PJIAE), we recognize the importance of sustainable aviation and efforts to mitigate environmental impact. However, we also emphasize that air travel is essential for the Dutch Caribbean, connecting our region to the world for tourism, business, and family reunions. A balanced approach is crucial to ensure accessibility and economic stability.

The Dutch Caribbean Cooperation of Airports (DCCA) is actively engaging with stakeholders to ensure that the specific needs of our region are considered.

🗣️ Make Your Voice Heard! The Dutch Government is seeking public input on this proposal, and your feedback is invaluable. The deadline for submissions is February 25, 2025.

📝 Submit your response to the Dutch Ministry of Finance here ➡️ https://www.internetconsultatie.nl/differentiatievliegbelasting/b1

📖 Read the DCCA's full response (in Dutch) here ➡️https://curacao-airport.com/our-organisation/dcca/ https://lnkd.in/ej9vWRx8

We encourage you to share this update with your networks and help ensure the Dutch Caribbean’s concerns are addressed in this important discussion.
Thank you for your support!

Emissions, like a single politician give a rats a$$ about emissions or any other environmental issue. Money, just about Money. Some to fix what they broke, some to make sure the politician isn't broke. Laughing.

I prefer the Isle seat

Tax fuels countries, like it or not. Following your logic, why not get rid of all taxes ? No schools, no police force, no security ..

Call me stupid here, but are they talking about flights ONLY from Holland to the Dutch Caribbean, or all flights into the Dutch Caribbean?

How is a tax on flights going to mitigate the environmental impact on the island? If the goal is to reduce the number of flights, this would seem quite strange for an island so dependant on tourism. Looks like another attempt to kill the goose that lays the golden eggs. And I agree with Todd....it's all about the money.

I think Carol is correct. This is a tax from the government of the Netherlands, not Sint Maarten.

jaxon--yes, that's my question. I don't know, can Holland put a tax on SXM? I don't know.

I don't think they are putting the tax on anyone other than people flying into or out of the Netherlands.

From what I read the charge applies to each arriving and departing flight. So it would increase the cost of the flight for everyone that travels through the Netherlands, which I assume, will impact a fair amount of travel to/from the Dutch Caribbean.

(I could be wrong. My opinion is based on what I gleaned from documents I could find online.)
