Once again, GEBE comes through with a power outage, or whatever you want to call it. Since I arrived last Monday, this is at least the 4th outage and I believe there was also one at night that I did not notate and I may have missed one along the way. It seems to be in the 2:30 range in this area
I don't know how the island can allow the continued building when the infrastructure is crumbling now. The roads are a mess, GEBE is a total joke and we will see if the airport and Brian Mingo come through as promised.
It seems everywhere you look, there is more building, hacking away a hillside yet the island residents suffer with power outages and other government corruption.
Anyone who thinks these outages are not impacting tourism is dead wrong. I would not be here now if The Horny Toad did not have the generator and I would not consider staying anywhere that did not.

Agreed, the GEBE situation, which primarily affects the island residents, very much also affects tourists and people are looking now whether to visit the island or not, based on this situation. And, as you say, building continues apace..

The power situation is a constant concern of tourist from what I read on various Facebook sites. Contrary to what Jeff Berger has stated before.

Okay my interaction , is that St.Maarten is very rich Island , billions of dollars are being invested and circulated , simply because , the time has come , that having your money in the Bank is a no benefit period and okay money laundering is happening simply because lots of people has tons on money stashed , hence they are looking at ways and means to double that period . Therefore , being self righteous and simply to be perfect is a big joke .
And right now , lots of cheap people are visiting our Island and will be a beef about a cheap rate on a car rental , but for restaurants , they will try a thing that once a small issue happens , they will shut out loud about bad service even if the owner reimbursed them their money plus offer them to come back for free dinner .
Listen , if you Folks dont want to come to our Island , hence go elsewhere , we will not died . Sa la vie and I have no elsewhere to go to but not broke lol.

I think for someone who relies on tourists for a good living you appear to be anti tourist. Many people are interested in getting a good deal whether it’s airfare, hotel or car rental.

Thanks. Nothing big. My wife is going on a family outing in TN and I will reconnect with the dogs and cat. In the past, we have always done dog events but with Storie turning 14 on Sept 3 and being retired, we have stepped back a little.
I just call is like I see it, like it or not.

We have a new Government that has been recently formed with lots of new young intelligent persons and they will be doing to their utmost best to push St.Maarten back on top . For the near future , international pre-clearance will also be introduce so that our visitors will have less hassle when traveling to our Island . Everything thing takes time and St.Maarten will rebound back for all visitors .

Lesley--I doubt that international pre-clearance will happen anytime soon, as that is a MAJOR expense, and in my opinion, if it were going to be done, it should have been budgeted and allowed for in this most recent iteration of the airport, which may, or may not, be done by October.
Meantime, as bdeeley said, good way to encourage people to book with you. Comments such as those will be deleted in future.
