St. Maarten- Expect your power to be off from 10 pm today until 12 midday Sunday.

PRESS RELEASE
Saturday, June 15, 2024

For Immediate Release

NV GEBE Power Plant Scheduled Maintenance on Diesel Generator (DG) Set #18
Philipsburg, St. Maarten – June 15th, 2024 – NV GEBE announces a planned corrective maintenance for Diesel Generator (DG) set #18 at the Power Plant. To facilitate this essential maintenance, the respective production unit will be shut down on Saturday, June 15th, 2024, at 10:00 p.m.

This early shutdown is crucial to ensure the engine has adequate time to cool before the scheduled maintenance begins at 4:00 a.m. on Sunday, June 16th, 2024. A minimum downtime of six (6) hours is required to ensure the engine cools sufficiently, allowing the Mechanical Maintenance department to perform the necessary tasks safely and efficiently. The heat from these large engines poses a significant threat to the safety of our employees. By allowing sufficient cooling time, NV GEBE ensures a safer working environment, reducing the risk of heat-related injuries and ensuring our maintenance team can perform their tasks under safe conditions.

Please note that during the maintenance window, load shedding may be necessary to manage the power supply effectively. We ask for your patience and cooperation during this period as we work to minimize any disruptions.
The maintenance work is expected to be completed by approximately 12:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 16th, 2024. We aim to reinstate the unit and resume normal operations at this time.

We apologize for any inconvenience this temporary shutdown may cause and appreciate your understanding as we perform these essential maintenance tasks to ensure the continued reliability and safety of our power generation equipment.

I would be going for lunch on the French side today (well, mostly everyday since I stay on that side).

Good luck to those who are currently on the island.

From the GEBE situation to the seemingly never-ending and delayed airport reconstruction, the increasing crime, lack of any timeshare regulation and continued building and overbuilding, the island and those who run and govern it are NOT doing themselves any favors.

Dunno. Our electric was off from 4 to 6 PM yesterday and has been on since then.

It doesn't say that the power will be off for that amount of time. It says one of the generators will be down. Big difference.
However, I completely agree with rural carrier. SXM needs a big investment in its infrastructure. And by investment, I don't mean paying bribes!

B-I-N-G-O!

A TIMELY movement on the fronts would be nice also.

Yesterday's power outage wasn't any different than "normal", 2 to 4:15 PM here yesterday.

We are headed home today and while it's always sad to go home, I'm ready. Once 10 days have passed, I miss my puppies!

Can anyone tell me if SBR Villas have a generator to take the sting out of these power disruptions?

I have never noticed a power outage so I would say yes....

Edit...from a recent post here:

Quote
Simpson Bay Resort has had a huge bank of generators for many years. Well taken care of there.

Yes they do and quite loud. I've walked by them while they were running.
