My wife and I will return to Germany next June where I was stationed in the Army from 1972 - 1975. We are planning to land in Frankfurt, see my old post and quarters in Hanau and spend two days with friends in Mannheim & Heidelberg. Then we will be driving through the Black Forest to Garmisch-Partenkirchen where we will use the Armed Forces Resort for 7 days and use it as a base for local day trips to Switzerland, Innsbruck and Salzburg. We'll spend the last three days in Munich at some small hotel or B&B before flying home out of Munich.

Does anyone have any recommendations or nice experiences about the Black Forest, Garmisch area and Munich. Can anyone recommend a nice small place to stay in Munich that is not over the top in expenses.

Thanks very much.

Check out Hotel Exquisit. www.hotel-exquisit.com. We stayed here and like it very much. It's a small hotel located in a central location. We were able to walk or take a bus to see most of the sights.

If you go to Rothenburg, the Romantik Hotel was terrific. Very cozy, comfortable, friendly place. Both hotels were reasonably priced.
