Hi. Does anyone have any ideas for a sauce to put over meatballs as an appetizer? I've used bbq, etc, but wanted something a little different.

cook in a saucepan until jelly is melted

Colleen,

Love it! I do the same thing, (currant jelly) and folks have no idea how easy it is. Sweet and sour meatballs. I assume that 'nibs' means the little meatballs and not spaghetti sauce size. The kind you put a toothpick in and take it all in one bite.

Our favorite is to buy the frozen meatballs from Sam's and a large Pace Picante jug. Throw it all in the crock pot for most of the day and then serve with toothpicks. Has always been a great crowd pleaser. Very simple and easy.

Cranberry Sauce for Meatballs:

16 ounces can whole cranberry sauce
12 ounces chili sauce
1 tablespoon brown sugar
1 tablespoon lemon juice

Mix all together and put in pan w/meatballs. Heat thoroughly and put in chafing dish. So easy and yummy!!

Another one I do is mix apricot jam w/Catalina dressing. Add a couple of shakes of soy if you like. <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/Thumbsup.gif" alt="" />

This is very good but I also noticed on the back of the Oceanspray Cranberry Sauce can that they also have a recipe which uses 1 jar of Heinz chili sauce and a can of the oceanspray cranberry sauce. I haven't tried it but was thinking of it.

That's what we use as well. I have to say the Cranberry recipe sounds super yummy!

I like to make a white sauce with big chunks of mushrooms & onions, nutmeg and Marsalla or a medium dry sherry, S&P...
No, I don't use Cream of Mushroom Soup in this...

I don't use itallian meatballs for this recipe, rather sweedish type meatballs...

Forgot to add that the frozen Italian Chicken/Turkey meatballs are awesome for something like this. I've made Trader Joe's Chicken Mini-meatballs (refigerated) with Pineapple which were AWESOME!! I put them in a crockpot and added a can of pineapple chunks juice & all.....didn't have one left!! Enjoy!!

I always do the chili sauce/grape jelly one too. Big bag of meatballs from Sam's, two jars of chili sauce, equal part of grape jelly. BUT, I don't take the time to mix them in a sauce pan first. Just throw all ingredients in the crock pot (meatballs frozen) and as the meatballs cook the sauce comes together with an occasional stir. Very easy!

this works well with cocktail weiners in a crock pot for an easy app as well! <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/Thumbsup.gif" alt="" />

Bri, I forgot to add that the pineapple ones have a little bite to them which makes them extra yummy! Not so much that you notice immediately, it's the 'after bite thingy'.....yummmmmmmm!!

Contessa, I have a similar recipe, but with the addition of a teaspoon or two of Sambol Olek (southeast Asian chili garlic sauce). Gives a nice spicy kick!

OK, which recipe do you add this to? I'd like to try that!

Contessa's Cranberry Sauce for Meatballs. Just add a couple of teaspoons of Sambol Oelek before you simmer it.
