WestJet changed the flight numbers from 2652/2653 to 2276/2277, effective October 31st, 2024. It has nothing to do with the size of the aircraft. They have flown different variations of the 737, from the 737-700 to the 737-MAX8, on the YYZ/SXM flights for years. Nothing has changed in that regard.

While they have increased the number of flights per week this year, especially in peak season, they still only fly one flight per day, so the same flight numbers apply every day, unless a significant schedule change happens on short notice. In that case, it may be assigned a new temporary flight number.

One unfortunate thing that may sometimes happen currently, is that older 737s from Swoop and Lynx Air may be utilized as they shuffle aircraft within the fleet. These are single-cabin aircraft of various layouts without a separate Premium cabin. This has been made necessary due to the holdup in receiving additional new 737-MAX8 aircraft from Boeing. There are a lot of complaints about it.

I talked about how this impacted me in a previous post: https://www.traveltalkonline.com/ub...r-westjet-flight-changes.html#Post324311
