Longer range on the MAX8, yes. Higher capacity than 737-800, no. As an aircraft mechanic for a major airline we operate both models. The interior fuselage size is the same. How an airline configures the seating arrangement may differ.
Per Westjet.com, they have 2 seating layouts for their 737-800 (174-189 seats). They have 4 seating layouts for their MAX8 (174-183 seats). Hope this helps.
