We will be at Orient Beach for ten days in about two weeks. Just wondering how the seaweed is this year in comparison to previous years?

Yesterday the seaweed was minimal in the water, though there was a lot left on the beach from prior days.
Today, a lot in the water. to the point of trying to find a different beach today.. Suggestions are welcome.

We were there about two weeks ago and the sargassum was far less prominent than our trip last June. I noted flying in as the place got closer to the island that there wasn’t as much floating around as we saw last year.

Just saw pictures posted on Facebook of the seaweed on Orient. Was tons of it piled up on the shoreline today.

Listen no matter what anyone tells you. They have tractors that clean up everything everyday!!! We were there a few weeks ago and spent more than a few days on Orient beach. LaPlaya is our home base. But I walk the beach end to end everyday. Those guys don't stop until the beach is all cleaned up!!! FACT!

Sand Gravity, got to love it!

There has been lots of seaweed left in piles on the beach. Nancy and I have been doing end to end beach walks every morning. The first day we were here was the worst day for seaweed, other days have been better. We did do one day at Happy Bay, no seaweed at all.

On another note, went to La Playa both for chairs and lunch yesterday. We used their chairs for the first time, as KKO, which is in front of our hotel (Orient Beach Hotel) did not have any chairs set up all day. Lunch there was incredible. I ordered the Sashimi Deluxe ($38), when it came, I swear I got the $78 platter, but when the bill came, it was the lower price. I was very satisfied. Nancy Mahi Mahi with creamed corn and a variety of vegetables. she loved it. So thanks for that recco.

Scott, we love the sushi at LaPlaya. We usually get the sashimi platter and a couple of rolls and it’s a feast .

We were at La Playa last month on 3 separate days where they had a big truck that scooped up all the seaweed about midmorning along La Playa and one or two of the other beaches if you’re staring at the water to the left, I’m not sure sure what those beachfront names are any longer.

We stayed at the Orient Beach Hotel... wonderful location, but a bit more than Bruno's (putting it mildly). It was perfect, especially for a person's first visit to SXM. We used the beach at KKO (right in front of the hotel) most days. One day we went to Happy Bay (at at the Friar's Bay Beach Club), and the next day (when KKO was closed) we used La Playa's chairs and ate at their restaurant.

No seaweed at Orient today. Picture perfect and plenty of open chairs at the Perch.
