For today the plan was for one of us to fly back to San Jose to go back to El Presidente Hotel check out and bring all our clothes back to the hotel here in Manuel Antonio beach hotel. . To spend the rest of our time here in this area. But there was no return flights available ( $150 RT) SOO now we are going to spend 2 or 3 more days here, buy some clothes to wear since the plan was for 1 day. And fly back to do a short time in San Jose before returning home. . Now paying for 2 hotel rooms, but the numbers worked out better this way. You can buy airplane tickets in Quepos at SANAS or go to the airport and purchase them. Anyhow ate b’fast in the Centro area of Quepos, which is a typical Latin America b’fast. (American b’fast can be bought at many of the hotels/restaurants on the way back to Manuel Antonio Beach area. So wife went shopping at the beach vendors for clothes and I went shopping for something to drink (prices for beer range from 800 colones to 2400 colones with bar to bar)eh priorities. Showered for happy hour and went to the el Aviaon bar for dinner out . Was told of this place by one of the guys that come down here a lot. It is 1 of 2 C231 (?) airplanes that the CIA had and left at the San Jose airport in the 80’s. It didn’t look like much from the street, just an old airplane that was turned into a bar. But behind the airplane is a huge dining area (with another small bar) that overhangs the canopy with a spectacular view. You look out over the tops of the trees and fauna for about a mile the the rest of the view is the Pacific ocean. Just gorgeous. The interior of the dining area is made of the local species of wood. Small tables ( 2 to 4 people) are made of a 5” thick burl for the top and 8” diameter turned pedestal. The chairs, candle holder, condiment holder and napkin holder are custom made of the same wood. Huge custom made chandeliers of wood turnings and fabricated ironwork hang from the ceiling. As this is all an open space ceiling fans on 12’ centers keep you cool. And the menue had a lot of choices. The appetizer and main course was excellent. Price $42 that included drinks. Afterward walked across the street to the Gato Negro which is a hotel , restaurant and bar. You can walk up to the disco bar on the 3 floor and see out over the top on El Avione to the ocean, a great view too especially at sunset since you are on the west side of CR.
Tipping. Haven’t covered this yet because I was trying to figure it out. The is a 10% service charge added to the bill and this is your tip. Seen a few people leave a little extra and this was mostly Americans.
There is a lot of places to eat low keyed to fine dining. So has something for everybody.
Took the bus back and got off at Las Gamelas ( owner is from Colombia) bar across from the beach. On Sat. night they have free drinks for women starting at 9. And they start a huge bonfire across the street on the beach. Anyhow watched the show till about 9:30 and called it a night.
