We usually charter in late June/July, but circumstances require an earlier trip this year - 2nd week in May. Anyone have experiences to share on sailing this time of year? Climate averages suggest a high rainfall month in May - is this noticeable/bothersome? I'm fine with the short, sharp downpours, but not so much the steady, prolonged stuff.

Thanks in advance!

May is my favorite month of the year in the BVI. Still not hot, low crowds, out of the N swell timeframe.

We go in May and love it. Not as crowded, for one thing. We are booked May 3 to the 24th. this year. Can't wait...

We have been in May for many, many years. Best time to go IMHO. Not too hot, maybe some showers but last few years have been very dry. Not crowded but everything still open. We'll be there 8-30 May. See you around.

We went in May last year prior to that we went on Easter break. May had nicer weather and the crowds seemed less, I was concerned about the more rainfall but it didn't rain at all on our last trip. We will be back on a Moorings 393PC from May 18 to 27 and am looking forward to the trip.

I cruised last year in the 2nd week of May for my bareboat sailing course and it was glorious weather, didn't rain once and was cool enough at night not to need the air-conditioning with the nice trade winds. We had no problem getting mooring balls in when coming in at 4:00 PM after a hard day of sailing.

The only issue I had was there was a bunch of little jelly fish or something that gave you a little sting around St John and Norman islands. Hoping whatever that was isn't there this time. It wasn't a problem at Cane Garden and Jost, I wondered what it was and why it only affected those islands. Just a little annoyance though.

I am hoping that the weather will be as nice this May when I return for my first charter! with my wife, my buddy and his wife.

2014 we went in May. 2015 we went end of November/early December. More prolonged rain and more chop this last trip. May was definitely our favorite.

What a relief! We're also headed out for our 7th trip the first week of May, but we have never been that time of year. Sounds like the weather will be glorious as always.

Our preferred month of the year. Less crowded, lower rates, no hurricanes, no swells, consistent winds and never needed AC. We'd do May over any other month of the year!

Life involves risks, take some prudent ones (NOT with the BVI ferries)!

So excited to read all your posts, we too are heading there May 20-30th. Was also trying to find information on the swell direction this time of year, so to hear the north swell is generally not a concern this time of year was very helpful. See you all there... We sill be on the Southern Charm out of TMM.

We should share our tentative itineraries as we get closer to May. If they align we could get a group together for drinks! I know we're starting on JVD, but we haven't decided if we're going to work counter clockwise or not. We aren't "hosting" anyone so we get to go wherever the wind takes us.

Sounds great, we fly down on April 30th, get the boat on May 1st. We have no itinerary set (and usually don't), we will be on the boat for 14 days, so we are pretty flexible. I will share our tentative itinerary as we get closer. Love meeting fellow TTOLers

We don't have a set itinerary other that picking up half our crew as they get off the plane at EIS on May 6th. Prob spend the night at Trellis or Marina Cay that night since their flight doesn't arrive till 7:10. Maybe we could hang our TTOL flags so to spot each other smile

Going to be there the last week in May for our third year running. It is lovely that time of year. My favorite time to be in the Caribbean.

Fat Daddy K and crew return to the BVI May 17-31! Chartering through Pro Valor again--Cecilia and Jim are GREAT people to deal with! Hitting the Baths and Marina Cay first, then to Leverick for the buffet and Jumbies, then the Full Moon Party at Trellis, then to Saba Rock, Anegada for a couple of days, JVD, Norman, and finally Cooper before turning in the boat. Then, it's three days at Cane Garden Bay to rest. Can't wait to get back! Post your itinerary and maybe we can share a cool, refreshing beverage!
