We just got back from a week on Tortola at the Long Bay Beach Resort and we had the MOST wonderful time! We really enjoyed the resort - grounds were very pretty and for the most part we found the staff extremely helpful. They helped arrange scuba through Baskin in the Sun and a day sail on the Ulti-Mate. (Both we highly recommend - also understand that Patouche is great for a day sail.) We were amazed at how uncrowded the resort was, as well as the entire island. Very few children were at Long Bay until Thursday, when a ton arrived - assume that somewhere schools are on a break. Our room was a deluxe hillside and it was just about perfect. A split level design with the sitting area and kitchenette separated from the bed and bath by a couple of steps. Tile floors and islandy decor - really great, as was the tremendous view. We had a large balcony and the entire back wall of the room seemed to be glass. Our only complaint was that there were a lot of wasps or hornets which appeared during the day on our balcony and made me nervous. There are also no chests or dressers for clothes - we made do with the large closet and a cabinet under the TV. Our room was in a great location behind the reception building - we were fairly close (but not too close) to the new pool and the beach wasn't that far away. We loved the ladies who tended the pool bar - great drinks and the biggest burgers you've ever seen. The Garden Restaurant is OK but for the money, go to the Sugar Mill - just incredible food! The setting at the Beach Cafe is really nice, but the food is nothing special and we found the service horrible. Be sure to use the can of "Off" provided in the room - I forgot it the first couple of days and have MANY bites from mosquitos, I think. Overall, we found Tortola great...diving was superior to some other islands nearby (but not as good as Bonaire or Cozumel)and we had fewer hassles getting there and returning home. The Long Bay was exactly as advertised and we would definitely consider going back.

Edited by Administrator on 2/26/01 11:57 AM.
