It’s funny how your world can change overnight isn’t it? One day you’re on top of the world and the next, you’re knocked to the ground. That was the case for us on Day 3 but there’s always a bright side. As we dealt with the chaos in our personal and business lives, our view outside our unit was amazing.
We’re Canadian and the impending tariffs from our largest trading partner, the U.S., have been rocking our businesses. All morning long, we fielded phone calls from our devasted clients and confused partners in the U.S. Then we had to work on a real estate deal that wasn’t doing so well due to the economic stressors that were impacting any interested buyers. It was a lot to deal with, but that’s life. We hold no anger or grudges against our American friends, we just need to figure out our new world and how to deal with it. We finally put down the phones and closed the laptop at 2:45p.m. It was time to head to the beach.
First win – how lucky are we that we could walk into the sunshine and jump into the ocean? St. Maarten seems to make you happy no matter what you’re going through. As we basked in the sunshine, two birds seemed to be kissing on the rail in front of us. Then they were kissing too much. (wink). There was a happy ending however, and we are expecting more babies on the island soon. A win for the birds.
Then it was time to play Bingo. I used to play as a kid with my Mom and it was so much fun to cover up the numbers on the reusable cards again. And we won! We now have a nice beach mat, a St. Maarten hat and a small bottle of Champagne. Win!!!
Feeling like Chinese Food we went over to Mr. Chows in Maho Village. After some super delicious spring rolls, hubby had the Ginger Chicken and I had the Bobun salad with shrimp. I wanted something healthy, sweet and savoury – this salad delivered in spades. My picture doesn’t do it justice, but it was layers of crispy romaine, red peppers, cucumbers and carrots on top of a layer of “cold broth” filled with vermicelli noodles. I’d have it again in a heartbeat. Double win!
We wandered across the street to Casino Royale and enjoyed the tail end of a juggling show while sipping a nightcap. There were no wins in the casino that night, but we were happy we only made a small deposit that we hope to collect soon. (another wink).
Life is full of wins and losses but at times like this you count your blessings. St. Maarten has blessed us so much over the years and has had a knack of putting life into perspective for us. At the end of the day, it’s hard to be upset at life when there is so much beauty and love in the world – right?
Yes. World markets were in turmoil today. See what tomorrow brings. We took a big hit here at home. Keep the chin up and enjoy the time in SXM.
You’re right Scuba. We’re all going to be okay down the road. We need to bring manufacturing back to North America to make all our countries great again. Chin up and power through!
