Incredible that the title line contains "Passsenger" - they evidently didn't run it through a spell-checker or a human who can proofread... Although the best one I've recently encountered is the official stamp from Antigua, which says "Clearded".

Am I reading this correctly? EIS to Road Town is $39.18 per passenger.

Are the new rates per person? Or per cab ride?

Do these sound ridiculously high to anyone else?

It's literally cheaper for 1 person to rent a car and drive from East End to West End than it is to take a taxi....

The taxis in the BVI have always ranked amongst the most expensive I've ever taken; but these new rates really show how powerful the taxi/bus drivers are on the island. And I'd much rather rent a car for less, as @VirginGordaResident has pointed out.

This what happens with the cabbies when a cruise line stays away..they then gouge the rest of us who use them locally. There are some good apples in our taxi ranks (AC Merlise) but some nasty characters too..like those that threaten you if you park in an area they consider "theirs"...like the area next to The Elm on CGB on cruise ship days. This is a case of the tail wagging the dog. The taxi drivers and their familes vote and they vote for more cruise ships and they raise their prices.Politicians fear if they try to bring them back to a reasonable level they will lose the vote of each cabbie and his voting family. Its getting disgraceful..of course if the UK takes control and non belonger residents get to vote???!!! Hmmmm..

It amazes me that some ppl here are so quick to point finger and make ridiculous statements, but haven't read carefully at the the bottom of the draft what is written in RED INK.

Most of us are qualified readers who dont make ridiculous statements IMHO.

In defense of taxi drivers. On my 70 th birthday we had just sent our beloved Bountiful off to Florida hoping it would sell better there. We then hired (we thought) a taxi to take us around Tortola since we had spent most of our 30 years of sailing the BVI on the boat, not touring the island.

I cannot remember the drivers name, but when he found out that the tour was my birthday present he refused to take any payment for his services. He took us everywhere. Granted, it was midweek in early June, no cruise ships in port, but even so we were more than willing to pay for his fuel. He refused to take any money. This was a wonderful memory of the islands we knew and loved.

I am hoping newer readers of this forum have an opportunity to meet true BVIslanders like our driver.

So what DOES the information in red at the bottom mean? That the price is supposed to be for the whole cab, regardless of how many people in it? It's very unclear.

The rate used to be for groups of 1-4 passengers, I believe. And the taxi drivers are ingenious, I shared a cab from the airport to Nanny Cay with a couple once, and he was adamant about charging the couple the going rate at the time, then charged me the same rate; as he said we "didn't belong together".
