After reading WendyK’s letter I decided to send one as well. Probably should have let my mom (Pat) write it as my writing skills are not even close. But I think I got a lot off my chest!!!!! The “editor” made some adjustments / let’s just say “I wish I was 40!” Ha

Many good points in that letter! I have to say that I thought Cupecoy was a concrete jungle, even before 14 and whatever that other new one is.

What an awesome description of what’s going on on our once upon a time “Friendly Island” good job, Kim!
Years ago, close to fifty of them, we fell in love with St. Martin/§int Maarten because of its uniqueness but sadly that’s mostly gone today and the island has become much like any other beachy location - Miami, Myrtle Beach, Jersey shore - take your pic.
The cliffs at Cupecoy were gorgeous but today - not so much. The concrete fortresses just don’t cut it IMHO. The people are still warm and welcoming but the politics of the island just suck!

Protect what little is left, please!

Respectfully,

pat

I don't think the government can do anything about the SC being added on but they can surely enforce the TOT that some unscrupulous merchants add on.

I hope others who feel as we do, Kim, will write letters, but unfortunately, I fear our concerns fall on deaf ears.

Well written Kim, frustration that is shared by many. I very much feel for what Wendy is going through, there should at least be some legal construction hour constraints beyond what is reasonable to your neighbors to be good neighbors.

Right - you must have had to deal with it when you were on island. Crazy they kept working on Easter.

Kim- you're spot on with your letter!! These reasons and many more are why my husband and I have decided not to return to this once fabulous island. We haven't missed a visit in 38 consecutive years even with the hurricanes- we continued to come to try to help the hard working people of St. Maarten. Now we'll just have pictures and memories to remind us of all the good she's given us.

Perhaps the paper should be inundated with letters who do not return due to the mismanagement here.

Tough argument, the "nobody goes there anymore because it is too crowded" statement by Yogi Berra comes to mind. Most if no all the places they are building are going to sell, the rental market and hotel markets seem to be doing well. Add to that real estate prices have not dropped, and I for one can state I still expect to be going there for many years.

I wish they would work on the infrastructure to support what is there and what they plan to build, the road through the golf course is a perfect example as well as parking for Mullet as Kim stated. Past that where do you draw the line or where should have they drawn the line for development? There are many points in time I am sure people argued about allowing the developments that have happened from the Original Mullet Bay Resort to the Cruise Ship terminal to the other large resorts and condo buildings. People want more and there is a demand for more, but want what it used to be, impossible.

I then just sit here dreaming of my next trip to SXM in 219 days. Back to work!
