Yes, it’s time and surprisingly enough, I’m ready.

As I gaze out in the ocean from my vantage point on our deck I’m seeing two large cruise ships and four mega yachts. Beyond the Holland America ship I have no clue who they are but they are BIG and I probably couldn’t (or wouldn’t want to if I could.....) afford the fuel never mind the boats and crews.

It’s been a very nice two weeks. Could it have been better? Maybe or maybe not. We really didn’t do anything but we saw a lot of friends we hadn’t seen in a while and that’s always special. And we saw some things we didn’t care for so very much - like all the empty and closed up shops in P’Berg and so much still unrepaired property on the French side. Sad to see when you know in your heart so many are still suffering from Irma and now hit with the effects of Covid on top of it.

But the people we encountered are still the same St. Maarteners we’ve come to know over so many years. A kind smile and a happy laugh when you take the time to engage them.

So am I happy we made the trip at this time? As long as we’re able to go home at least as healthy as we arrived here, I have no regrets in spending the time and energy to make this trip.

And now, on to our last breakfast and then airport time with hopefully, no surprises in store.

It’s been fun having you travel with us and I hope I didn’t bore you all to tears. But if I did, sorry about that but c’est la vie. 😊😊

Ps - we just went next door to El Zafiro for breakfast, and as promised, Erika made us French Toast in the old island way out of sliced baguette. Yummy if you like it and we sure do.......and that’s what I mean about how nice the people are if you take the time to engage them. We’ve asked for it everywhere and few, if any still make it that way but she actually offered to if we came back another day. So we did. She did. And it was very good!!

Hi Pat,

Thanks for sharing your trip - and it was anything but boring. We’re now rebooked for one week in February and can’t wait! We haven’t been to our island “home” since Nov. ‘19 and it feels like forever ago....

Safe travels,

Cathy

Thank you for taking the time to share. Safe travels.
P.S. My wife wants to know if French Toast the old island way is sliced round or length wise?

We've had French Toast at Vesnas and it is sliced round.

Zee Best in Simpson Bay also does the baguette French Toast. Just say a polite, "I'll pass" on the basket of baked goods. wink

And the Banana Almond French Toast is made with the almond croissants...OMG!

Don't remember who it was offhand, but someone here posted that Zee Best no longer passes the communal basket of baked goods, post Covid outbreak.

That makes perfect sense! wink

I know his wife is doing baking classes online. They got the most gorgeous Christmas cookies by order as well.
