Has anyone been on this ship and used the Freestyle Sundeck that I have heard is clothing optional. Any info as to the amount of people using it and if most are nude. Any other info would be appreciated

yes back in 2011 cruised on the Epic and used it c/o a few times. At most there were 4 other people there. Usually just 1-2. you will see topless as well as c/o. I don't remember seeing any gawkers. It's a small deck and well positioned.

they sure don't advertise it well. that might be enough for us to overlook some of the downsides of Norwegian that lead us to other cruises.
The only thing find on internet are stray references...one picture of a CO sign......but I don't know how old that is....nothing company official enough for me to book with them with that anticipation.
if someone can point me to an NCL reference....I'll boost them up my cruise line list <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/toast.gif" alt="" />

Check with the cruise line directly and see what they say. I would tell you to check with TTOL sponsor Bonnie Buchanon at Cruise One, but the last I knew, she didn't book much with NCL.

Bonnie loves that private suite area on NCL, so she has good feelings about NCL these days.
As far as I know, NCL prohibits nudity in any public area - which includes all sun decks.

Oh, I guess you are more up to date than I am on her. Forgot about the private suite deal! Can't hurt for the OP to call her and see what she knows about it..

Taken from NCL website Guest Conduct Policy
DISCOURTEOUS OR DISRUPTIVE BEHAVIOR Pool, deck and theater chairs may not be reserved. Topless sunbathing is not permitted except in the designated areas. (Contact Guest Services for more information.)
So there may be some wiggle room no pun intended. <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/Joy.gif" alt="" />

We sailed on the Epic in 2012. My wife and I used the Freestyle Deck most at sea days. There were typically 5-10 adults. More male than female. Men were always nude, women mixed between nude and topless. There is no shade at all. Waiters occasionally came up for drink orders and were unobtrusive. No voyeurs, occasionally someone would come up the stairs, see the area, and immediately leave. I believe they were just exploring the ship, it is the highest accessible public area. BTW, the new Breakaway and Getaway both have a similar area according to NCL's deck plans. Enjoy!

Just returned from our trip on the Epic. And the Freestyle Deck is clothing optional. There were nude and topless use of the deck by both male and female. It was a nice quiet place away from the crowds.

I also see that one of the itineraries include a trip to SXM. That would be an ideal Cruise, CO on the freestyle deck, and spending time in SXM.

Yes, it's totally nude. The problem with this is it's used mostly by men. The deck would be better if it allowed topless only. It would then be used by more couples.

I was on the Epic last week and discovered the Freestyle Deck the last sea day. My wife and I went up there and all were totally nude. There were about a dozen people, 5 couples, a single man and a single women. We were there about 1 1/2 hours and it was a nice quite. relaxing time.

NCL claims no more nude or topless where or by whom? Personally, I don't care for NCL myself, but that's sad if nude folks have lost another option.

"Topless sunbathing is to be done in designated areas", and the first paragraph reads "dress down as much as you want, and enjoy the sunrise on your balcony". Seems simple enough to me <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/Joy.gif" alt="" />

we're cruising on the Getaway May 3 and wondering if there is anyone out there who recently returned from a trip on the Getaway and experienced the topless sunbathing deck?? Be anxious to hear from experiences. Thanks

We posted above that we enjoyed the Freestyle deck on the Epic in 2012. We sailed on the Getaway in March. Went looking for the Freestyle deck soon after boarding. Not! Never saw anyone (female) topless on board. Oh well, we spent our days nude on our balcony and had a great time anyway.

we got back three days ago from a cruise on the NCL Getaway. As promised I said I would check out the freestyle deck and try to find out if topless was acceptable on the deck. I saw two topless women on the deck one day (must have been 30 others on the deck at the time)and both of them again one day later. I talked with a NCL authority about this issue and she said topless use of the deck was acceptable as long as the ship was out to sea and not in port because of a port tax issue.

Cruise the Epic in 2014. Yes, the freestyle deck is nude, topless or whatever. From what I seen in the past, I wish NCL would limit it to top optional. More people would us it.

How many people did you see using it as topless or nude? Why do you think it would be better to be topless only as opposed to nude?

Cruised the Epic about 1 year ago and yes, you can go totally nude. The problem with this was it was mostly nude men. Only saw 2 women there the entire cruise. We always liked the topless deck on Carnival and it was used by couples very often. On the Pearl it was also topless only and used by couples. We would prefer topless only on all ships. More couples would use it.

I am wondering whether the Norwegian Spirit will have a top free freestyle deck for Mediteranean cruises this summer?

we sailed on the Spirit in the Med in June. No dedicated area. About a dozen women topless throughout the ship on sea days. No big deal but a very European crowd, Now that I recall, a lot of well-covered middle-easterners mixed in as well.
