Jan. 3: Rodney Bay
The price difference in airfare for leaving right after the charter and waiting a couple days is such that it makes sense to hangout a few days and unwind, especially considering the weather in Buffalo so I’m on island for a few more days. I walked over to the mall and had breakfast at Bonne Baguette Bakery, they had a special of eggs with smoked Norwegian salmon, fresh fruit and a baguette. Afterwards I walked down to the beach and stopped in Spinnakers for a gin and tonic. I headed over to the Bay Gardens Beach Resort, staying at the Bay Gardens Hotel entitles you to full use of the facilities at the resort, and I spent most of the day between lounging around the pool, having a swim or swimming in the sea, it was nice to just chillout.

When I started to feel a little peckish I walked over to The Lime for dinner off the buffet. I was going to try the pelau, but didn’t like the looks of it so I opted for the stewed pork. It was a nice meal, you get your choice of salad and three sides, I chose a double serving of the steamed veg as okra is in season and the veg was a combination of okra, carrots and cabbage. I went back to the hotel and had a couple drinks on the patio then took a little nap. Around 7:00, I heard a lot of music from the bar/pool area below my room so I went down to find the Managers party in full swing; it’s a weekly occurrence at the hotel, with free rum punch, drinks and hors de oeuvres’. Mike and Debby arrived shortly after I sat down and we had a few drinks together; I met some English women who were on island to take their Competent Crew course on Diamond Girls, the Girls for Sail boat, and another woman, Kim, who will be in Carriacou the same time as us. Debby and Mike took the hotel shuttle to The Fire Grill, I had to stop at the ATM so I walked and met them there. The restaurant was booked for a wedding party until 9:00 so we had some drinks at the bar including a sorrel margarita, not too bad. Chef Bobo, came by a few times to ask if we needed anything and to insure us that we would be seated shortly. Once we were seated we all opted for the burger, mine and Mikes with gorgonzola, Debbys with cheddar. The food was very good as always, and the burgers were served with some sides ad their famous relish assortment. As an added treat, someone had booked a sax player to celebrate his wife’s 60th birthday, so we enjoyed the music with our dinner.

Following dinner, they decided to wait until the hotel shuttle came by for a ride back, I chose to walk as I wanted to see if my friend John was working at The Hairy Clam. As soon as I got to the turn off by Buzz, I could tell he was spinning the tunes at the bar from the selection of songs being played. The bar was quiet so I only stayed for one then walked back to the hotel for a nightcap on the balcony and some well needed rest.
