Just got back from 5 nights at Emerald Palms on South Andros Island, Bahamas. Everyone was very nice and the food was good. We stayed in a club room, garden view which actually had a better view of the ocean than a club room pool view. The bikes were fun and there is a little restaurant outside the grounds that you can eat at if the dinners at the hotel are getting too expensive. You can also ride about 2 miles up the road (north) into Driggs Hill town and there is a restaurant called Ezrenas on the left hand side. She had a good selection and we ate breakfast there a couple of times. Swimming is a little rough. At least when we were there last week the wind blew constantly. The day we left it was totally gone. I tried to snorkel anyway but didn't see anything. The pool is very nice to lounge around. We also rented a car for the day ask the front desk, it was $75 for 24 hours and they came to the hotel with the car. We drove to the end of the island to Mars Bay, not much open anywhere some grocery stores and one small one gift shop on the way. We ate lunch at Skippers Rest. and Bar on the way in Kemps Bay very clean and good lunch plate and nice beach $12 & $14. You will need to be the very relaxing kind of person that likes to do nothing if you are staying more than 4 nights you could get restless. But if you want to dive and/or bonefish it looked like that was going on there.

There was a taxi woman that took us from the airport to the hotel $13; her name was Mrs. Lloyd she is a very outgoing person and she would love to give ppl tours of the island that we should have done so we could get an explaination of all the things we saw. It is $25 an hour. Ask for her at the front desk and they can arrange it. It rained on the last day or our trip (we don't mind that) and it was the first time it had rained in about a year we were told. It brought out tons of land crabs that she brought to show us when she dropped us off at the airport.

Only things to be really aware of is that the dinners at the hotel were always between $24-$30 and the beers at the bar (local beer at that) were $5.75! There is a liquor store about 3 miles south. If you get into the airport early enough your taxi could take you there. If it is close to 5pm they might be closed so take a bike the next day for beverages for your room. There is also a gas station before you get to the liquor store on the right hand side that has crackers, cheese, snacks, sodas, etc. Anyway over all we enjoyed it but wish there was just a little more sight seeing. I would not hesitate to stay at Emerald Palms again for a short getaway.
