We have only been to SXM in the summer. What's it like in September? Is everything open?

You will find plenty of places open. Busy season is probably November - April, so September and October you will see people close their restaurants some time in that time frame to go visit family off island or go on vacation themselves. Most are not closed the full two months, so that's why I say you will find plenty of open places. I think you will find the weather different in September, but others that go during that time frame will likely chime in.

Biggest concern would be hurricane season which runs Jun to Nov with Sep historically having the most.

We have been to SXM many times in September and October. Everything is NOT open, but there are still plenty of great places to eat and drink. The weather is warm, the water is warm. There are NO crowds, anywhere. We love going to the island during that time period. It is high season for hurricanes though, so do make sure that you buy trip insurance!

I know Sarafinas is closed during September and I believe Le Moulin Fu is closed a good part of September as well.

On our first trip many years ago, I had a list of must visit restaurants, only to find half of them closed. There are still many wonderful restaurants open to enjoy. We now travel the last week of August though the second week of September and make sure to visit the restaurants that begin their closing in September first. Some websites may mention their closing or I have been able to email some restaurants about their closing with success.

We used to own Week 40 at Pelican which was from last weekend in Sept through first week of October depending on the calendar. There were some closures but there was plenty open. If there are restaurants you want to make sure you don't miss, make a call to see if they are open.
The weather was always great. Only Luis in '95 made us miss. The Island is empty and they are happy you are there.

We will be going to Orient Beach everyday. Will the restaurants be open? Will there be people on the beach. We don't want to be on a deserted beach. We like being around other people. Thanks for the information.

Deserted no! Not even in September. Some of the restaurants may be closed, but not all, so you will not lack for food and drink.

Some Orient Beach restaurants close, but most are open in September. Beach will not be crowded. Sept is very low season and Hurricaine season, so be aware. We live on Islamd and usually leave during Sept. The weather and water temp will be great though.
