This is for the lady standing in line at the radiology office in Norwalk Ct. who asked my husband where Karakters was.
(He was, of course, wearing their shirt.)
He answered on Simpson Bay Beach. She then asked him where he stays while in SXM and he answered Beachside Villas.
She said that they also stay there. She asked what Villa and he answered villa #10 and she said they stay in #9.
They also go 2 times a year and that would be Spring and Fall---like us!!

I was wishing they exchanged names, because they haven't been recently because of driving at night. We could offer them a ride, so they could return!

Small World!

Two peas in a pod, for sure. I have the "SPIGA" key chain on my set of keys. I was at the frozen food section of a local grocery store (Wisconsin) and had my keys on top of the cart, and the woman next to me also at the frozen food section asked me, "Is that THE Spiga in St. Maarten?". We had some good laughs over comparing our notes on the island. I need to get back to Spiga one of these days, for sure.

Hi happy to see you guys are ok!!!Hope all went well!

We have many stories about people stopping us when my husband has one of his t-shirts on, but someone suggested posting this here to see if we could find the lady from the radiology office. We were probably next-door neighbors with her at BSV for years!!
Maybe she will read this.......

Several of us have been meeting at a local tavern every Thursday for years solving all of the world's problems. The lady tending bar and two of us have been going to SXM for years. We have never gone at the same time, but enjoy comparing notes when one returns.

My small world story happened on Mullet Bay beach. I walked down to the end near Cupecoy and say a young woman with a UCONN travel bag. As I was telling her that I was from Connecticut, she looked me in the eye and gave me a hug- turns out I was her former high school teacher 15 years ago! The very next day, I was at the edge of the water watching the waves and started up a conversation with the man next to me. (my husband says I'd talk to a tree if it talked back!). I asked him where he was from - bingo- he's from my home town of Branford, Ct. Small world indeed!

In a related story, when we went to the SXM airport on Monday to see about switching our flight, we walked up to the AA help desk. I happened to notice the lady's name at the desk was Grace Bruney. I realized that she probably had to be the sister of JD's taxi driver friend, Junior Bruney. I had met her once or twice before, with JD, since he is the godfather to her daughter, Aiesha. The last I knew, she was a travel agent. I asked her if she was Junior's sister, and she said yes. I told her we were good friends with JD, and we enjoyed a few lovely minutes talking. She is really a very lovely person and was very helpful. Thanks for your help, Grace!

On a similar note, at various dock diving events there have been people I know from SXM come to the events. It is amazing how the connection from SXM comes into play sometimes.

Since we're all posting small world (on SXM) stories... Here's mine. We owned week 51 in La Vista Beach. We also would come down 2 days early for a total of 9 days there. We decided to buy week 50 for a full 2 weeks there. Because our week 51 unit was owned by another couple, we had to take another unit and when week 50 was over, move to our week 51 unit.
Well as luck would have it, the couple occupying our week 51 unit decided to move to a 2 bedroom making it possible to occupy the same unit for both weeks. We started chatting with that couple and we quickly learned that the wife came originally from Brooklyn (They currently live in Maryland) as I did. I asked her what high school she attended. She answered that she went to Midwood H.S. I told her that I also attended Midwood H.S. and was in the class of 1965. She laughed and said that she also was in the class of 1965. When I got back home I looked her up in my yearbook and saw that not only were we in the same class but we signed each other's book. We were actually friends in H.S. but forgot that fact. Of course we are friends outside of SXM now.

I taught school for 35 years in Lancaster, PA. A few years ago my wife and I were sitting on Orient Beach on our chairs, drink in hand, and all of a sudden I heard, "Mr. Woods, is that you?" Of course it was me. One of my students who had just graduated from high school came over to talk to me. Had received a cruise trip for graduation and had stopped for the day in SXM. After she walked away my wife said, "Bet you're glad we aren't at Club O today!"

We were on Island with Grace's Sister and her husband. One night we were at dinner in Mario's on the canal. We were just sitting down and a guy walks up to my BIL and says hello. They worked in the same department, knew they were both going on vacation that week but neither mentioned where they were going.

Two years ago applied for Global Entry. Filled out the background check forms and waited for my appointment for interview with the TSA. Brought in my passport and other ID and mentioned to the interviewer that there are a few SXM immigration stamps in it. She replied that she was leaving for SXM in two weeks and was staying at her timeshare unit in the same resort as mine. Our interview turned to a comparison of restaurants, activities, etc. At the end of the session she asked a few perfunctory questions which were already answered on the questionnaire.

My “Small World” story takes place in two different countries. A few years ago, we were at the N Resort in Jamaica, when I got talking with the lady in the adjacent lounge chair. When I introduced myself, she said “Oh, my husband’s name is also Kevin”. That got us off to a good start. We found out that we were both from Ontario. The next day, during a beach walk, we talked about where we vacationed in the summer. They said that they had a cottage on a certain lake. Turns out that their cottage was across the small bay from where we had been spending a family winter weekend for the past 35 odd years. We had been looking at their cottage all this time! They asked us where we spend our summers. We said we had a cottage on one of the lakes in the lake district. Turns out that the other Kevin grew up at their family cottage on the same lake, just a stone’s throw from ours. Small world!

This past April, we were at Club O, and got to meet another Canadian couple. Turns out that their home was on a lake next to ours. A few minutes into the discussion, he revealed that he spent a fair bit of time at a lumber yard in a nearby town, and that he knew the young lady who runs the place. Turns out that this young lady is our niece! We agreed not to discuss where we met with our niece!

Small world, indeed!

Kevin
