We are long time SXM visitors, and are thinking of a short golf trip over to Nevis in Dec or Feb. interested to see if others have some details we might use. Winair appears to be an option, and a hotel affiliated with a golf course is the goal. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance. 😎

The only 18 hole golf course on Nevis belongs to the Four Seasons Hotel. I was there last week (anchored off Pinney's Beach) and saw the course - it is pristine and beautiful. If you do head to Nevis, I liked the Golden Rock Hotel and it is priced better than the awesome Montpelier Plantation Hotel.

Addendum - the other golf course is a private one, and that isn't a full 18 hole course and I'm not sure it takes greens-fee players.

The Four Seasons has the only 18 hole regulation golf course on Nevis. It's available to anyone willing to pay the Greens Fees (I think its around $250) so you don't have to stay at the resort in order to play there. Contrary to Zanshin's observation the course is not always in best of shape. From a distance it looks great but up close it leaves a lot to be desired. Fairways are narrow, undulating and heavily sloped in spots often resulting in uneven lies. Balls landing right or left of fairway center have a good chance of rolling through the first cut into the woods. Greens have 2 and 3 different kinds of grasses (on the same greens) making putting a challenge. Fairways are often very dry.

There's a 12 hole short "chip & putt" course at Cat Ghaut (near Mount Nevis Hotel) that's open to the public. Holes range from about 70 yards to 140 yards all with postage stamp size "greens" (I use the term "greens" very loosely).

There's a private chip & putt "golf course" with 2 holes and 10 tees the belongs to the Nevis Golf Association. Its members only so you'd have to be an invited guest to play there.

We used to see a lot of golfers on St. Kitts years ago coming in from SXM and once upon a time the activities desk at the Towers offered a day trip over there from SXM for golf and/or a day of sight-seeing. It's been years since we've been to St. Kitts so perhaps the course doesn't even exist any longer.

Not Nevis I know, but it was a pleasant reminder of trips from 'back in the day'...........now if only I could remember where we stayed!!

The trip was offered prior to the opening of the course on AXA and since the boat to Anguilla was considerably less expensive than the plane tickets to StK, we thought they did away with the golf trip to St. Kitts but if the course is still there and playable, it might be an option if Nevis isn't available?

I'm sure you are right, I only looked at the holes close to the hotel itself and they are probably the best-kept ones. I played a lot of golf having lived in PHX, so I'm used to good courses but $250 seems a bit steep. Are the rates better if you are staying at the hotel?

No, rates are the same for resort guests and outside guests. I think I may have overstated Green Fees by $25 - figure on $225.

Many of us who live on Nevis prefer to go over to St. Kitts for golf at the Marriott's course - much better condition and wider more forgiving fairways and very well kept greens.

I have been to the Four Seasons and loved it. The island's botanical gardens are beautiful. Walking around downtown is like a trip back to precolonial times. It is a great island to visit.

Consider a trip over to Anguilla to the former Temenos course, Approximately 10 tears old, Greg Norman design, views upon views. Now being run by Cuisinart. Only 20 minuet boat ride from Marigot. Track blows away 4 Seasons, lot less stress, better course! Played 2 years ago, don't know about shape of course currently, however great time. Going back in Jan!!

Thank you all for the feedback. Sounds a tad cost prohibitive for the golf and overnight in Nevis. Maybe Anguilla or possibly St Kitts is an alternative.
Thanks again.

FYI - flying (the only way from SXM) to St. Kitts will cost you about the same as flying to Nevis. Golf at the Marriott course will run you $150 (in High Season) or $125 (in Low Season) if you are staying at the Marriott (add $15 to Green Fee if you are not staying at the resort. Club rentals, if you need them will run you $65.

Green fees at the Cuisinart course on Anguilla will set you back $250 in High season and $225 in Low season. Club rentals will set you back $60 for basic clubs or $99 for premium clubs.

If you are bringing your own clubs don't forget to factor in the excess baggage fee the airline will change you in each direction (and also to/from the Caribbean).

Golf in the Caribbean isn't cheap.

I am an AVID golfer, but when I go to the Caribbean, I leave my clubs at home. Much better courses in Colorado (Yes, I have played golf in Colorado every month of the year) or Hawaii, The Algarve, Portugal etc.

Not much of a golfer myself, but for my money, if I Wanted to break up my SXM vacation for a few days and go golfing, I would look at St Croix. Liat does round trip, although maybe not daily, and STX has a definite feel, and some nice golf courses. Stay a day or two in Christiansted for a relaxing experience.
