Daily Herald story I guess I missed the original announcement on this. Not sure whether there were more details released or not.

As I said, I don't know. I couldn't find the original story.

Just to put 450 a/i rooms in perspective, Soneta Great Bay has 257 rooms and Soneta Maho has 534 rooms. I won't believe this till I see dirt moving with a brand name attached. Remember, this is the same Minister that announced that JetBlue was ending all service to SXM and did not know what she was talking about.

I guess they missed the basics of reporting - the who, what, where, when and why. Tbc......maybe?

I don't think Alegria has that many rooms, does it? Like I said, if there was a report in the DH regarding the original press conference, I did not see it.

I tried "googling" Sunwing resorts and looks like they are building one in Antigua.

Carol_Hill said: I don't think Alegria has that many rooms, does it? Alegria has 78 rooms. Even if they were to finish the other buildings, you still would not come close to 450 rooms.

Caravanserai had 78 rooms when Alegria bought it and notified us former timeshare owners that in 2 or 3 years they were going to knock everything down and put in a new facility complete with a 7 story parking lot and a megayacht marina.
Obviously there would be a lot more rooms.

The only thing that I was able to find online about this is here. Sounds like to me that the Daily Herald was the one who made this thing a reality, when it isn't, not yet anyway. "Negotiating" with Sunwing to do something, is sort of like the Seminoles were "negotiating" with Simpson Bay Resort. It could still happen, but looks like DH got ahead of themselves on this one.

Some one could convert the Blue Mall into a hotel. I'll bet you could make a bunch of hotel rooms there.

I read something lately about Marriott going in and making a hotel at Blue Mall.
