Just an update...for those who followed my previous post. My husband is at home recuperating from a punctured lung and fractured ribs. We had to cancel our trip to SXM and were totally bummed. Also no insurance on villa....yes, we learned a lesson. The owners of the villa in Baie Orientale felt really bad for us and were concerned about Barry's recovery. They moved our 2 weeks to September...no charge or penalty, and we'll be able to return to our little slice of heaven in a couple of months. We are ecstatic! No more tree cutting before vacations...or EVER!

That is great news for you and your husband. I hope his recovery is going well. The upcoming trip will be truly appreciated by the both of you.

Thanks for sharing your good news. We've also found that tree cutting is best left to the professionals. The one time we had to reschedule, we also were able to do so with no extra charge - enjoy September.

People are generally good folks it turns out! When we had to cancel last minute this April due to a death in the family, the condo owner gave full credit for our 2 weeks next year!

I am so glad for you!!! Please do post the name of the villa eventually, so the owners can reap the positive PR from their really classy move!

Mary's Boon graciously let us reschedule when Dot fell and shattered her shoulder shortly before we were scheduled to spend two weeks there.

Happy to know your DH is progressing nicely with his recovery and how very considerate of your villa owners. It's always nice to learn there are still good people out there.

So the two lessons I've learned through your mishap are - I will always buy trip insurance in the future (though we did finally start doing this a year or two ago....) and I will diligently try to convince my DH to leave the tree work to professionals in the future.

Happy it has all worked out for you.
