Another reason why we rent from Lesley Bruce every year. On our annual April vacation, I misplaced my new iPod touch on our last day. Back home, I started tracking my movements so I emailed Lesley to check out the rental car. He asked the new people to check no luck. After the car was turned in, he had the car wash check. No luck. I gave up and was about to buy a new iPod when I received an email this morning. He found the IPod.
That is service above and beyond. Thank you Lesley Bruce.

We had the same situation with a kindle left in the car in March. Lesley took care of the issue right away. 2 thumbs up for Kenny's car rental and Lesley Bruce.

Not to be a Debbie Downer here but last October he never showed up after 1 1/2 hours. It was a very hot wait and he said he was just too busy! Empress got our business for the 2 weeks.

Arriving in SXM from 5/14-5-20 staying at Divi. Looking to rent a car. Kenny's seems to be the place to go. Seeing that car break ins are pretty common, do you guys go with the extra insurance option?

There's no need to purchase extra insurance; your credit card will likely cover any damage to the vehicle (check to make sure, but most do). We used to take the liability, but don't bother with that any more either; many would not be comfortable with that decision, so that's up to you.

Don't leave anything in your car, and ask your rental guy whether to leave the car locked or unlocked.

Agree with your advice except the decision to decline liability insurance could end up costing you a lot of $. Unfortunately, some rental companies have jacked up the daily rates for this so I would shop that around as part of my decision. I have found they range from $5/day to $11/day. That can add up but may be worth the peace of mind.

It's my understanding that the liability laws in France and The Netherlands are different than those in the US. That's why we don't bother with the liability.

We had a situation after our last trip. After we were home for two days, we received an emailed photo with a picture of a dented underside of a front bumper. We would have known if we had put this dent there, and would have been upfront and honest about it. Most likely someone backed into the car - it could have happened before, during, or after our rental. We were offended that the email insinuated that we tried to deny any responsibility, and replied accordingly. We had been long time customers. The unbelievable response we received "I'm glad you will longer be my customer". I have no idea if my credit card would have covered it, since I don't know where the responsibility lies.

I don't understand how that could happen. Our vehicle is always inspected when we drop it off, and the condition is noted on the return paperwork. We actually had someone back into us in a parking lot this last trip, and it knocked the rear marker light out. I called Alain about it, and he told me not to worry about it at all.

Biturbo,

Was this a rental through Kennys or through another agency. Read your post and the one after it and I'm uncertain who this happened with. TY in advance for your follow-up.....

Interesting comment from GaKaye
I always wondered why the liability charges were different co to co on the island, wondered if it was the deductible or?
However from a friend found out in Europe - EU - third party liability is madatory for the car owner, whether it's for personal use or rental. So assuming St Martin and St Maarten are part of France and The Netherlands, then the liability insurance is already included in your rental cost. The exception is the liability does not cover yourself or passengers in the car.
So for me next time, the question re liability is to find out what it covers. Plus for personal or passenger liability that could already be covered by your personal travel ins policy
Also means for islands not part of the EU, the above would not necessarily be true.
Anyway interesting topic

Pat, I hesitate to say who it is because many on here enjoy this agency, and I hope they continue to do so. We assumed that we would continue to do so also. In fact, I hesitated to post this - not to hijack the thread. There are other choices - AAA always gets good reviews. I will PM you if you would like.

I had my car stolen in SXM. It was found fully stripped two weeks later. Hertz sent me a bill for every part that needed to be replaced. that was over $14,00 for a year old Corolla in 1997. Master Card paid every penny.

Any damage to your car is Collision and likely would have been covered by your credit card.
Had a similar experience a few years ago. Notified AMEX and they took care of everything, never heard anything more about it.

Lesley has gone above and beyond for us on many trips. Been using him since '07. This last trip plans changed and he offered a solution that worked for us! I have great trust in him, although I know others have had issues. We will continue to use his service! Love that he greets us at the airport!! It is truly a welcome home kind of moment!!

We had a small fender bender when someone backed into us in the airport parking lot in December 2014. Our Capital One card covered the whole thing.

Check with them to be positive. Cards have different agreements, and Capital One issues different cards

We use the same Cap 1 credit card. I will definitely check with them before we rent again. We were both upset about being accused of doing something we didn't do, and our reaction wasn't to call Cap 1, but to honestly explain our side of it.

personally I think talking about the good and BAD is what makes these forums useful...as long as your being honest about your experience, don't know why you'd be concerned about hurting anyone's feelings 😷

The problem I see is that since this thread is about Kenny's some will assume it was an issue with them so at least make it clear if it one someone else.
