I just read that too Chris ... BVI is not immune I guess ...
Of note to anyone travelling this weekend
"" Though the airports will continue with “business as usual,” passengers are asked to arrive three hours before their departure times through the weekend, police said.""

Maybe that explains the 25 minute search of my luggage last time I was there. It took them almost a half hour to search my duffel bag carry-on for my two week excursion. the contents of my bag? 2 bathing suits, 5 shirts, 3 pairs of shorts, and two flash lights, keys to car/boat, and my BVI phone...they even checked the call log. they even noted that my passport had over 50 BVI/USVI stamps on it. They ran EVERY piece of clothing through the scanner...separately. Then I had to sign a document that I "had been thoroughly violated" They were so intent on me I thought my next step ...was into the back room.
Oh, yeah, and I'm global entry and TSA-pre.

Robert, all they had to do is look at your shirt and they should have known you were safe

While I think that TSA and airports could be more efficient at security screening, as the wife of someone who travels for business every week, I appreciate the extra diligence.

If like to hear more on this. Is this ALL travel to and from BVI or just the airport leaving?

Seriously? Terrorists are gong to target a potential 42 people traveling from EIS?
Just silliness.
I recently passed through security at EIS with two cell phones in my pockets.
The BVI only aspires to have the security issues of its bigger sisters.
...like everything else.

YachtR....here's another way of looking at this: Consider the "security" measures - or more accurately- "security motions" at the ferry terminals Perhaps we should tip our hat to BVI for recognizing the silliness of it all

Must say STT aiport was horrendous on Saturday..pat down searches..everyone was rude and surly and the place was packed..long lines for the ladies room and to get food and absolutely nowhere to sit..at Red Hook ferry dock they had padlocked the usual gate and made you go through the main terminal past a guard..hmmm

YR, Your analysis is logical and thoughtful. The problem is, terrorists are neither.

You mean, "Saturday as usual." I try to avoid Saturdays at STT like the plague- have sat on my duffle bag for too many hours to voluntarily sign up for it if it's at all avoidable.
If I can't be a good example, I'll just have to be a horrible warning.

The following is sourced from the Flight Service Bureau Midweek Operations Briefing.
TIZZ/U.S. Virgin Islands authorities, assisted by the FBI, began investigating reports of a plot to attack airports on the Virgin Islands, notably the Terrance B. Lettsome International Airport (Beef Island Airport). The U.S. Coast Guard first received information of a terrorist attack plot circulating on social media. The threat focused on Terrance B. Lettsome International Airport but also mentioned airports on St. Croix, St. Thomas and St. John as possible targets. No information is available on what level of credibility authorities attach to these threats.

Hard I'm sure for authorities to know whether a totally bogus rumor or when these things have a grain of truth.
As far as I know there are no Mosques in the BVI, that well could be wrong, just never heard of any. If is the case, it is less likely a radicalized group in the country to commit acts or aid outsiders in carrying out attacks.
There is not a large number of immigrants given status to stay in the islands on welfare as is the case in Europe. There are no weapons readily available for sale.
So terrorists would likely have to come by water, have everything they need with them and have little chance of escape if escaping was their plan.
Reading I see accounts that there are areas of the Caribbean that have sent an estimated 150 to join ISIS. In addition Hezzbolah and the Iranian Quds force is active in South America and the Caribbean which I found surprising and scary.
Resort communities have been somewhat popular targets in the Mideast and Far East for this ilk. There is no limit to the depravity of the crazies. Though I doubt the threat is valid, I'm sure glad it is taken seriously and one more reason to not get too complacent.

Terrorists might have a hard time targeting the St. John, USVI airport. As far as I know, there isn't one!

Just back from Tahiti where security is virtually non-existent on inter-island flights...it was nice being able to bring unfinished bottles of booze to the next resort! Although I did mange to create a security issues with my jumbo Toblerone candy bar in the bag scanner at LAX!
