I recall in the past that the Virgin Gorda airport closes each year for some reason....does anyone know if/when that would happen Jan - March, 2017?

We flew through Virgin Gorda on our way from Beef Island to San Juan a couple of months ago and were delayed because the VG airport was closed. Apparently, one of the planes from Cape Air had a flat tire and was stalled in the middle of the runway. Fortunately, there were several motivated passengers who would have been impacted on the next few flights. They got together and pushed the plane out of the way so other flights could land!

But this probably isn't what you meant by "airport closing..."

There have been a few intermitent closures over the past few years. One because someone built a house in the apporach path, once to do some runway improvements and once because of a safety certification problem. Now it is mostly open but with strict aircraft size restrictions.

The airport only had one two day closure this year for maintenance - over the past three years its been basically open for business - if you fly Air Sunshine or Cape Air and the airport happens to be closed the airline will land in EIS and you'll be ferried over to Spanish town
