My wife and I made our first trip over to Blind Creek Beach on North Hutchinson Island this past weekend. We had a wonderful time. It is a very nice, out of the way beach. I'd say there was roughly 75-100 people there Friday and Saturday. We found it very similar to Apollo beach without the parking issues. We were greeted as soon as we walked on the beach by one of the leaders of the Friends of Blind Creek Beach group. She was very nice and welcoming. They have done a great job of working with the county to get this beach established as clothing optional. It is great to have another clothing optional beach in Florida. I highly recommend everyone checking it out. Here is their website:

I can't take any credit for it, just one of the lucky ones who gets to enjoy it. I only stumbled on reports of this beach a few weeks ago. Yes, Friends of Blind Creek Beach has done a wonderful job.

We had a similar experience at Blink Creek a few weeks ago, very nice wide open beach with lots of room to walk over a mile end to end it seemed. Other friends went the next week and had a sand flea problem, so bring spray. Only facility there is a nice PortaPotty.

Meanwhile, I will have to keep track of Blind Creek and maybe we will take a jog over there sometime. Speaking of which, I couldn't tell by the directions--how long a WALK is it? I have a lot of problems with my back and am not able to walk for long distances.

The barrier islands along Florida's east coast are a treasure. One of the best things about them is that they usually do not get the daily summer afternoon thunderstorms like most of central/southern Florida. The prevailing daytime winds on the east coast are from the east / southeast every day and the barrier islands are too narrow to cause any significant thermal lifting of the moist ocean air.

When I graduated from Syracuse in 1968 with both an engineering degree and an ROTC Air Force commission, my first duty assignment was to Patrick AFB on the barrier island between Cocoa Beach and Satellite Beach. All summer long I could see the rain clouds begining to build to the west beyond the Banana River and the Indian River over the mainland beginning at lunchtime. My normal duty hours were 0700-1600 and by the time I left work the towering thunderstorms were raging across the Western horizon while we were enjoying sunshine and a blue sky on the base. As the afternoon progressed, the storms moved steadily westward across Orlando and on to Tampa on the Florida west coast while I would be water skiing on the Bananna River or taking an Aero Club Cessna for an hour and flying around the east coast to build hours toward my next FAA license.

Clothing optional starts right when you walk on the beach. There is a decent dune walk over with hard packed sand. So you could easily step out of your car and be on the beach in a few hundred feet.

In early spring of 1960 I went to Primary Pilot Training at Bartow A.B. near Winter Haven. The Air Force used civilian fields and instructors for primary back then. Three were in GA and one in FL.

It's good to have this beach and it is south of the ft pierce inlet. Also on this barrier island is a dog beach where the hounds are free to roam..........also on this beach is a nuclear power plant. So, I guess you take what yOu can get.

You really see no traces of the power plant when on the beach aside from the water inlet at the far south end of the beach. I believe the power plant is no longer operating? Might be operating as a transfer station? No longer producing nuclear power? Anyway, Blind Creek is a wonderful beach... very open, very civilized and very safe!

We loved this pristine beach. We were there on 4/9/16 and there were a little over 100 people there due to a bus trip from Caliente and Paradise Lakes. SFFB along with Friends of Blind Creek were on hand to welcome the beach-goers.
There is a very good restaurant over the causeway in Jensen Beach with very nice water views called Conchy Joe's. Great place for after beach dinner.
