This was our first time to the Bahamas, & Eleuthera Island. We stayed the first night at Orange hill in Nassau, very nice people, fine rooms for an overnight, very reasonably priced for Nassau. THe next day we flew to Eleuthera, GHB. The weather was gray & rainy - very depressing and not at all what I was expecting. It was like that for about two days then BOOM the sun came out & stayed out !

We rented a car from Dawn Sands, it was supposed to be a ford expedition, but we were given a dodge durango instead. The car was in ok shape for a rental, it was the other things wrong with the car that were frustrating. It was 3 quarts low on oil, had a bald tire, a tire that kept getting low on air, and the 4WD was not working. We tried for 3 days to get a hold of Dawn, and when we finally did the tires were taken care of the next day - we filled the oil up ourselves at 7$ a bottle!

We stayed at Le Sable Rose. My first impression was much better than it looks on the internet. Except the bathroom. I swear each time I took a shower I thought that tub was going right through the floor- scary!

This house was pretty close to perfect for us. We had everything we needed as far as cooking utensils go- it was quite well stocked all the way around. It is right on the beach, so very nice to walk out the door down maybe four steps and there you are on the sandy beach.Beautiful scenery and when we ate dinner Andy would "turn the TV on"(he would open up the drapes) and we watched the ever changing waves. Lovely.

The air conditioner was adequate for the most part, but on the 4th of July it was 103 degrees, now in all fairness, I am sure most air conditioners on the island had a hard time keeping up with that! It was really so hot every day we were there- I don't think it went below 90.It really is a great place to get away- so nice to not watch the news for 10 days! They have lots of DVD's there, and we did bring some too, also they have loads of books - I read 7 books!

The lounge chairs were perfect and I loved that they had little wash lines to hang things up to dry. And we loved the outoor shower - so nice to have a place to rinse off.

The only real problem we had with the place is you get the impression from the website that there is usually no one on the beach. Well almost everyday there were people there. There were Day walkers, Road walkers & bicyclists (behind the house), cars going up & down the road (I had thought that the house was on a dead end) Sea walkers (a couple snorkeling popped up about 10 feet from us - scared the you know what out of me!)and houses much closer than you think, plus one has like a lookout tower on it so it does feel like you are being watched. Several days people just brought their chairs & umbrellas & spent the day on the beach - the closest maybe 50 ft from the house. Of course it is a public beach, but what I am saying is, don't go there thinking you will have this great beach all to yourself. Besides, it was nothing another tanger & rum wouldn't fix. By the way, my newly discovered Eleuthera drink: Ocean Spray Ruby-Tangerine juice, a tall glass with ice, & rum - oh my gosh YUM!

We only went out to eat three times- brought a cooler of meat with us and were very glad we did.We went to Mate&Jennys for pepperoni pizza - med pep & 2 beers- $23 very reasonable. We went to Captain Jacks (had to meet Natasha!) and had BBQ ribs & sides $14 per plate, again very reasonable. Our dissapointment came at the Beach House for tapas. The food was great but the flies were so bad and so aggresive we literally had to take turns eating, while one of us kept swatting the flies away. Plus, I am sorry but $7 for a beer, and $10 for a mango Daiquiri is ridiculous. It is however a Beautiful place, and location, they play great music and they have the most adorable little puppies running around!

All in all this was the best vacation we have ever had. We just kind of stopped- I mean how often do you really get a chance to do that? We drove up north one time, went to the Gift shop - can't remember the name, and could kick myself for not buying souvenirs there as there really wasn't anywhere else to get them.We really just stayed at the house, ate, drank, slept & read. It was fantastic!

The power only went out few times, and only for a few minutes. One time it went out for three hours, I called and they said it would be back on shortly.Bring a flashlight you will be fine.

I would totally recommend this place to anyone who wants to let sand gravity take over. I would not however suggest anyone go here if they like being very busy, being pampered, or being entertained. This is a total "ISLAND TIME" vacation, and if you can't just chill and roll with things you might want to go somewhere else.

The worst thing for me was the bugs - I stopped counting after 200 bites - not exaggerating. I tried itch cream, Aloe gel with Solarcane, but plain vinegar from the bottle (I left it in the fridge for the next victim) gave me the most relief. Oh yeah and there are like 5 bottles of mustard in the fridge - don't buy anymore!

It is a great place, although not sure I will go back - too many islands to see, but would like to thank John Bennett for sharing this haven with us. It's not fancy, but it is a perfect place to rest, and that is exactly what we needed!
