Woke up to gun shots at 4 this AM. The people in the house next door were attacked. Heard the assailants run by my house yelling. Scary. They got in a boat and took off across the lagoon.

Wow - pretty scary. Always assumed it was pretty safe there.. The SBR happened at 9pm near the Marina pool. Just sad this stuff is happening, you hear about it during low season, but not high season, not that it's ever justified, but the old - it's slow and people are out of work just isn't the case anymore.

They took the man to the hospital with head injuries. Not sure if he was pistol whipped or what. Hopefully not serious.

Sorry to hear this, Tim. Were your neighbours SXM residents or tourists? Just wondering if it was random or motivated. These acts of violence are certainly concerning!

Yup, we knew the peeps robbed at SBR and were staying there as well..they weren't hurt, but one woman fell after they got her bag and got a bit scraped up trying to run after them with her husband, screaming for help the entire way.....friend of ours left same area that night to meet us st BBB, thankfully she just missed the creeps....two nights ago bag with money, credit cards taken by guys running by a table at BBB...and again at place called Little Italy...watch your bags and backs people!!! May seriously consider another island next year after 16 years to sxm...stayed at sbr because of security there and issues I've had with attempted breakins prior at two seperate places over the years... security doesn't make a difference apparently!! Such a shame, glad no one hurt

Wow, such a lot of violent activity lately? We have always felt safe on all our island visits, but things definitely seem to be getting worse. The desire for money and material things can be the root of all evil!

Both of these incidents are terrible. I hope the people involved will be okay but what a horrible thing to happen anywhere but particularly in such a protected area. Don't they have dogs and serious security at Pt. Pirouette? We often hear dogs barking late at night and in the wee hours of the morning and it sounds like it comes from that area. Someone told us they were guard dogs......

The only thing that is protected is the road in. The thieves come by boat.

My son just texted me who it was & it is very sad. I'm sure he was targeted. It is a messed up world.
My thoughts are with his family & that he is going to be ok. Very sad.

We've stayed there a couple of time but while there's security at the entrance there's none by the lagoon. That used to bother me. Sorry to hear this.....get a Doberman.

They make it seem like the police and ambulance were quickly on the scene. Took the police at least half an hour and the ambulance another 15 minutes. It got to the point where I was thinking maybe no one called the police because nothing serious had happened.

The victim who is a friend of mine was medevaced to Guadeloupe and went under surgery for the gunshot wound to his head. Last I heard they were waiting to close the incision to check how the surgery went. No real news for a day or so now. This was a planned robbery. The victim lived in a villa in Point Piroute on the lagoon and the perps stole a jet ski from another friend and used that to do the deed. The jet ski was recovered later the same morning of the attack. The victim owns a marine gas station in Marigot and was targeted because of his cash business. He has lived on the island for over 30 years. My business partner lives next door and helped with calling police and ambulance. They have been supporting the victims wife during a very stressful time. I'm not sure how that will end for the health of my friend.

Not sure what they can do to prevent criminals from coming via the lagoon but this isn't the first time this has happened.

Thank you, Capt., for the update, and prayers for your friend as well as hopes that these perps are caught and punished to the full extent.
I'm going where the weather suits my clothes.

I am so very sorry to hear this news.
We are familiar with this gentleman. Every morning as we sat on our balcony enjoying a sunrise, and drinking coffee, he was on his way to work in his boat. If we would be out in the late afternoon, we would also see him come home.
I am saddened, and prayers for your friend.

Bob, Lyn and Leona,
Now I know who we're talking about. We also see him leaving and returning daily but didn't know who he was or what he did for a living. It all comes together and makes sense now......
Prayers and positive thoughts continue for your friend and his family along with our sincere hope the police are able to find the people responsible for this horrible crime.
