Trip Report
Back from my trip to the BVI and I am wishing I was back there. <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/cry.gif" alt="" /> We arrived back in home a day later than we were scheduled thanks to United and SJU. We got to stay in a 5-star room overnight in DC because they can’t manage to depart on time <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/cloud.gif" alt="" />. At least it was on the way home!! The flights down were seamless and we arrive at STT ½ hr early <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/Cheers.gif" alt="" />! I swear the hitch was SJU <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/cloud.gif" alt="" />!!
I thought since most of our time was sitting on the beach at Smuggler’s pretty much everyday, I would hit the highs and lows of the trip. More highs than lows!
Highs:
• Arriving at STT a ½ early, getting a drink at the Petite Pump Room and catching the ferry to West End. First time ever doing this! And for the most part was awesome!
• Smuggler’s Cove. You can’t beat that beach! I read 5 books in the 8 nights I was on that island and they were all read on that beach! We rented chairs from the lovely lady running the bar by the parking lot. I curse myself daily for not asking her name! She was such a wonderful woman!
• First ever dinner at Banakeet and experiencing the sunset while listening to Reuben Chinery (sp?). He was amazing, the sunset was amazing, the food was amazing…it was an unmatched experience! So good, we went back the night before we left the island for our last dinner.
• The Elm BBQ on Sunday. Great food and it was great fun!
• First time driving on the island. My husband has always been the driver on the trips and since he wasn’t there, I was! I admit I was nervous about it but once I got on the road, it was fabulous! My motto: if it feels right, it’s wrong!
• Rum French toast at Sebastian’s…yum yum
• Over night in Old San Juan at El Convento. What an amazing hotel!! It was overwhelmingly beautiful and I would recommend it to anyone!
• Shots of Sebastion’s rum after dinner
• Shots after the sunset at Banakeet
• Bringing home 3 bottles of Sebastian’s rum to enjoy!!
• Spending time with my son and my mother all while relaxing.
Lows:
• Arriving on the ferry from STT at the West End. It was like a cattle wrangling. That Monday must have been a shopping day for the islanders since the boat was filled with people and supplies. One of the locals told me it was her monthly shopping trip to STT. It took us almost an hour to get out of there since our luggage was buried under supplies.
• Bug bites! I was the only one to get them and I always am!
• United Airlines messing up everything before we’d even left. They caused us to have to over night in San Juan (at our expense and turned out to be a positive!) on our way home a month after booking the trip. Then, we left SJU late (2hrs!) that ate up our layover to continue back to SEA and we ended up spending the night in DC on their dime. At least the lady in IAD was nice and very accommodating. We also met some nice ladies from PA that were stuck with us!
• Missing the TTOL get together and not getting to meet all the members on the island at the time. I don’t know what I was thinking! I lost track of the days and completely forgot about it!
• Once again not being able to stay up and see a Quito show! We went on a Tues night to see him solo and ended up so tired, we left before he started. Either we’re getting too old to stay up past 9pm or we need to cut down on the day-long beach trips! Who knew lounging on the beach reading would make you so tired!
• Leaving the islands. Another year until another trip. <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/cry.gif" alt="" />
I have over 200 pics from the trip and not enough time (as of yet) to download them all!! I will try to do that soon and post the pics.
Cheers
