When you pick your rental car up LOOK at the sticker in the little pouch on the window on the right side. Make sure it is current. We were stopped today by the Gendarmes and our sticker was not current. They let us go but said not to drive the car after we got home until we had a valid sticker. The couple next to us said the same thing happened to their friends. Our valid sticker is being delivered to us at LesBalcons. Other than that....another beautiful day in paradise.

Great advice! I am sure many people never check this and just assume that everything is up to date which is often not the case. Enjoy your trip!

I think March 1 is the date for license and possibly insurance renewal also. Usually not a problem but good to be proactive.

I believe that regular cars are to have their new license plates on 1 March. Michael at Unity Cars says that the rental car companies get a reprieve on that. I hope so because I have the new sticker, but still have the old plates.

Lee lee,
We got stopped last Wednesday heading to Les Balcons. Gave us a warning to get it taken care of right away. Who knew? Four Gendarmes one with a gun stopped us on the Oyster Bay border. We notified car rental and a day later all ok. Lesson learned!

We noticed lots of gendarme stops on our visit in Feb. First time we drove past I thought what a strange looking radar gun, 2nd time we drove by I noticed - no not a radar gun! In the almost words of Croc Dundee, now that's a gun! I think one was enough!

It was only an expired sticker offense, not a bank robbery! <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/Grin.gif" alt="" />
