Can anyone weigh in on Mount Vernon for Accomodations? Because Easter is so early this year we need to seek Accomodations for the first time in 15 years outside our timeshare. Any suggestions would be appreciated for low cost Accomodations. RCI has not found us a trade on the island so we need to find something. Wee already paid our maintenance fee so cost is an issue

It's the least expensive place to stay that is right on Orient Beach. Depending on which room, be prepared for a hilly/steep walk up to the road or from the beach. Also a bit isolated with not much going on. That being said, I know several couples that stay there and walk to and from Club Orient every day and find the savings worth it. I don't.

I thought Mt Vernon WAS within walking distance of a Boulangerie bakery serves pastries, coffee sandwiches take- away or eat on their patio, open 6a-2p, 5p-7p.

LeTaitu restaurant L: 1145-2:15, D: 6p on, closed Mon. Sole e Luna is closest to Mt Vernon. And if they can get to the beach some of the places on Orient are open.

We stay there every year and have always enjoyed our stay. The pool is very nice and very quiet. My only recommendation would be to get a room with a "sea view" not the "lagoon view". The most desirable buildings (in my opinion and closest to the beach) would be Saba, Guadeloupe, Aruba, or Antigua.

Here is a layout map

Rondon,
My post was for somewhere else fantastic but not on orient if they wanted great price. Sorry for confusion.
Le Taitu is closed Sundays. But he is open this Sunday for valentines day ( large group of 14 coming in). He may open Sundays for march & April though.

That road was a total mess! Probably the worst on the island. Glad to hear it has finally been redone.

I've stayed at Mont Vernon several times and love its "diamond in the rough" feel. It was the first place I ever stayed at when I came to SXM in '08 that gave me a good feel for the island area.

You can find a ton of listings on AirBnB and VRBO between $80-$120/night depending on how fancy the owner of each room has remodeled their place. Some have even bought two rooms side-by-side for an adjoining room effect.

Its remote if you expect to just jump out one random night to hit some bars/restaurants but the beach proximity is what makes it work while. There's a small shop and pizzeria on site but its more for convenience than luxury.

Parking is bad and you will more than likely have to park in the back lot which is a dirt/gravel area.

Glad they repaved the road to the hill! I hated navigating the potholes to/from a night out.

Thanks for all the feedback. We were checking vrbo and saw that it was reasonable. We have never rented through verbose is it easy to get the keys when you arrive? We have a car and are not late night people.

I stayed at Mt. Vernon last year, and thought there were pluses and minuses. The facility was originally a hotel, and while many owners have renovated the interior of their units, they are still quite small by typical VRBO condo standards- room enough for a bed, small sitting area, and a cooktop and fridge. While some claim in their listing on VBRO that they are one bedroom, the one I stayed at, and photos I looked at of the others, were just a studio, no separate bedroom with a door. There was a sliding vertical security door to the balcony ( it was powered and opened like a garage door ) which meant that if I wanted to get up early and sit on the balcony, I was going to wake my wife. I was pretty disappointed when we first arrived by the exterior, there was rotten wood, peeling paint, animal waste, and dead grass and throughout the grounds, and a few abandoned cars in the parking lot. On the other hand, the interior of our room was quite nice, and the view from the balcony was very good. The pool was much nicer than I expected. The main reason we chose Mt. Vernon was we wanted to be in the Orient area, with a view of the beach and be able to be right on the beach, and walking distance from restaurants and we didn't find other options that met those items. The property is quite hilly, and since we rarely walk at home, we found that walking to dinner and back was quite a journey, and only did that once, other times we drove either to Orient Village, or Grand Case, which is very close. The road in was horrible, though I hear sections have been replaced. The walk to the pool and the near section of the beach was easy, though that will depend on how high up you are on the property. There is a small section of beach right in front of Mt. Vernon that is not private, but is rarely used by others - most beach goers stay to the right side near the restaurants and vendors, so if you want space to spread out, that is nice.
Overall, Orient is a great place to stay, the views are nice, the restaurants at Grand Case are 10 minutes by car, if you want a busy beach, it is not a long walk, and a pool and quiet beach are a short walk. I think Mt. Vernon is a good value, but if you are accustomed to staying at hotels, the grounds and exterior will be disconcerting. For me, I will continue to look for other options in Orient, because I would like a true one bedroom, with a separate living area, but have not yet found one that had both a view of the beach, and a short walk to the beach.
