For Christmas this year one our sons bought the Mrs and me a round trip day flight from Grand Case to St. Barths. This is our first trip to St. Maarten's neighbor and wonder if you veteran island hoppers have any recommendations? We have a rental car reserved so we will be mobile.

Take lots of money. St Barths can be very expensive.

From your arrival at the airport I suggest going to Gustavia, walking and (window) shopping, and gaping at the mega-yachts (the tourist board office is there and they have a great One-Day in Gustavia brochure). Have a cold drink or coffee, walk around the whole marina to the other side, and visit "St. Barth Stock Exchange"-- great off-price shopping. Go to Do Brazil at Shell Beach and have a snack or swim. Then head over to St. Jean for people watching or go to the beach there (you can rent chairs next to La Plage (Tom Beach Hotel). If you really feel like motoring, you can drive around the whole island in less than an hour. If you do that you might like to see Saline beach.Let me know if you want any more info.

How long will you be on the island? It isn't a "piece of cake" covering the island on a 1st visit. I guess maybe nowadays there is a GPS option???

If the creperie is still in Gustavia, I loved that place.

Our first visit was via a sailboat from SXM for the day in 1987. That resulted in many vacations there.

Charlie, La Crêperie is still there, one block up from Le Select. There are new owners and a new staff, but they're still putting out affordable (for St Barth) meals every day. (They may be closed on Sundays. It's been awhile since I've been by there on a Sunday.)

I'm pretty sure that they are open on Sundays,
however La Gloriette is closed on Wednesdays;
and Tamarin is closed on Mondays and Tuesday for lunch.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions. This is just a day trip so lunch to go will probably end up as the plan. (Though some of those restaurant menus look very tempting.)

Maya's To Go is a takeout place operated by Maya of the eponymous Maya's Restaurant. It's pricey (of course it is - it's on St Barth), but it's good. You'll find it in a strip mall parallel to the airport runway, a few hundred yards from the terminal building. (Free wifi-fi too.)

The prices on the menus on their web site don't seem bad.

We loved Maya's To Go. Not terribly expensive and the quality was excellent. It was our "go to" place for many meals. We also bought prepared food from the nearby supermarket which was also excellent. We splurged with a very pricy lunch on the beach at Eden Rock. Not worth the cost - the food was just good but it was an experience to add to your bucket list. St. Barts is a gorgeous island. Ride around and enjoy the views. Visit Saline Beach if you can.
