We love SXM First trip was in July 1999....our trip in January 2016 will be the 23rd. All have been with Sonesta GreatBay/Maho with one year at Mary's Boon. My question is ....with 22 stays at Sonesta, should we be entitled to any kind of a upgrade? Or am I totally off base.

Why not? When you get to the desk mention that you have stayed that many times, and ask the desk person nicely and respectfully if they can do anything for you. Use their first name. Look them in the eye.
I have got upgraded on airlines and at hotels many times just for asking nicely.

Better check your math. 1999 to 2016 isn't 23 years in Sxm.

Many people visit SXM two or three times a year so this coming trip could very well be his 23 rd. stay at this resort. Don't assume everyone only visits once a year like you do.

Thanks for the semi scolding for questioning the math. I already said it made sense to me as per pats response.

Like kim said...entitled=NO, but it never hurts to ask. Often in situations like yours the key is the correct approach and with the right person.
Traveling in January might be even tougher for an upgrade as it is high season and many places are full or almost full. Asking ahead of time (on a space available case) would be a good idea also.
Loyalty does not seem to be viewed like it once was and that goes for everywhere. Unless the business is actually tracking your loyalty and has a stated loyalty rewards program, I would not expect anything in today's world.
In 25 years (1991-2016) I have made over 40 visits (that would really throw the math off!!). Other than sometimes being recognized by people I have dealt with in the past, it is business as usual.

I forgot I wrote this! This was prior to our trip in January. When we arrived it was apparent after asking about an upgrade that this is not going to take place. They treated us like crap and only changed our double bed room the following day. Bottom line....we are staying elsewhere on our trip in Sept. Sonesta Maho will never get another dollar out of us. We are at fault because we chose $$ and over looked all their shortcomings in making our plans. NO MORE!.....

Either Son Risa a privately owned condo or Bakers Suites. Both in the Simpson Bay area
I know it is wrong to bash but after all the years we spent with Sonesta...it is very poor....their newest attraction THE OCEAN POINT....no question it is OK...but for that coin you can have something quite spectacular elsewhere

For September, you could look at my favorite, Beachside Villas. Your own condo, right ON the beach, one of the best beaches on the island, for $175 a night or so. Check it out...
