Does anyone have an idea/story about the derelict yacht at the entrance to west end? I was watching Captain Ron last night and was reminded about it when the "pre-cleanup version" of the really nice Hans Christian in the beginning of the movie.
It has been sitting at anchor for several years. From a 1/2 mile away, it looks beautiful, as you get closer...double yuck.

The gentleman who owned the boat, a good friend to all in Sopers Hole passed away a few years ago and due to maritime and probate laws, no one wishes to touch the vessel....sad but true...jollylou

I'm amazed that the anchor and rode have held out for all of this time. Does anyone have a photo of this boat?

and I stand corrected. it was not a HC. it was a Formosa 51.
Still a beautiful boat, so sorry to hear of the current situation.

We were told that the wife removed everything of value and just left the "hull"so to speak. Had no interest in doing anything else with it.

Perhaps someone that's down there now can take a pic and post it here for us curious ones to see.

There used to be one of those Taiwan boats at the dock over 60' at the shipyard for years and the owner used to be at the Pussers bar after work with his high octane small dog, I don't remember his name but he sounded like he was from England.

I took notice of it for a moment when we were down last month. I have seen hundreds of similar hulks on the ICW. The problem is the cost of disposal. Once abandoned no one wants to accept the cost of hauling these derelicts and properly disposing of the fuel, waste, etc. So they just sit.

I'll be arriving to Sopers this Sunday and will take a picture if the ferry is close enough. Otherwise it will be next Tuesday when we depart on S/V Osprey.
