Hubby and I are looking for a gym that we can go to for the week we are going to be in Sxm. Does anyone know where we can get a membership for a week to a decent gym? We are staying in the Simpson's Bay area if that helps and we will have a car.

Above the entrance of the Rainbow Beach in Cupecoy there is a Gym. I live here and the guys who are serious fitness addicts go there, it has a very good reputation.

Kind of depends on what you are looking for. Marci's is no-frills and inexpensive. The machines are old but functional. It's your basic old school gym. The Rainbow gym is very nice with state of the art equipment and a spinning class (extra) and is more expensive. I like Marci's because it's not air-conditioned but Rainbow is very nice also.

Sorry, you like Marci's because it is NOT air conditioned?? I would think most tourists would definitely want something that was air conditioned.

Gym is a must for us as well, many resorts have fitness rooms ranging from useless (Saphire) to very nice as is Simpson Bay Resort. Some require you to be a guest there for no charge and some charge even the guests. we have used the one at Rainbow a couple of years ago, no locker rooms or showers as I recall but good machines, only real issue there for us was it opened at 8:30AM and not always promptly. Also checked out Marci's but found the lack of AC to be a problem for us old folks, don't mind sweating but dropping dead would be a problem. Our favorites are for short term stays Simpson bay Resort, beautiful view, great facility with lockers and showers, can pay daily and opens around 7AM I think. For those that go regularly and for more than one week we love the Club at Port De Plassence (sp), you can get a couples monthly membership that gives you full access, has cardio, weights and mats. Beautiful facility with lockers and showers but best for us was its early opening, around 6AM. We would head there, workout, shower and head for breakfast and the beach. Probably for your first time and if only for a week I think Simpson Bay Resort would be my recommendation.

I can't even imagine working out with no air conditioning. If you are not staying at The Simpson's Bay resort can you still pay to use their gym?

Yes. I don't like cold air blowing on me when I'm working out. Marci's does have fans though and it never seems that warm to me. Always a nice breeze blowing through the windows. Hey, Marci's isn't for everyone. I don't need a fancy gym to get a good workout.

The gym at the Royal Palm used to be a public gym with free gym usage to the Diamond guests. Not sure if it is still public access or not now.

The last time we were at the Royal Palm was Oct 2014 and the gym had been totally changed over and was emptied of almost everything and was only for guests staying there. Just some cardio, the cable machine and some very low weight free weights. Not the best but I don't know if there has been any improvements since then.

That used to be the case, we were staying at La Vista and walked over, can't remember how much but is was reasonable. Very nice spot.

Royal Palm Gym has been closed awhile now. We use the Gym at Port de Plaisance nice, real nice place.

So, there is no gym now that is available free for Royal Palm and Flamingo guests?

What ever happened to all that space at The Royal Palm that the gym was located in? Did they put anything else in?

Part of it became a meeting room. Last June there still was a small gym there next to the meeting room that you had to use your room key in the lock to get in. Was hoping Sharon Harris would chime in.
