Hi All,
Just curious how many if any on this site venture up to Martha's Vineyard?

We didn't get the opportunity last year but we love both Lucy Vincent and Moshup beaches. We're looking forward to next summer.

We've only visited Martha's Vineyard once and we did visit Moshup Beach for the day. We always try and find a beach, club or resort near where we are staying, to visit for the day or two.

We've stayed at The Beach Plum Inn and gotten their passes for Lucy Vincent. It's for residents only in one of the most exclusive parts of the US. I think it's the best CO beach in the continental US. It's certainly the most upscale.

I did read that the water temp was rather chilly. Is that year round??

Yes, it is cold even in August! I think the temperature is a little better at the Vineyard than the Cape. Truro is another good nude beach but the water is pretty cold.

As the warm Gulf Stream moves north of Cape Hatteras it moves further offshore. A cold counter current forms closer to shore and flows south and west from Labrador along the Atlantic coast of the US past New England and as far as the Mid-Atlantic states.
This is called the "cold wall" and keeps the ocean waters along the beaches quite a bit colder than those from Hatteras south.

The water gets to about 71-73 by mid August( depending on the summer). It's much warmer than the shores north of Boston These are both amazing beaches.

Lucy Vincent beach requires a pass in the summer. Go to Aquinnah, park in the lot ($15) walk down trail to beach. The first section of the beach is "textile", continue further to C/O section. It's on tribal land. It's a fairly long walk from the parking lot, probably a mile, but well worth it. Beach is usually flat and sandy, beautiful cliffs, carry in/carry out, no facilities except porta johns at the entrance. Water temp. July/August around 71 degrees. Bring cooler, chairs and umbrella. Its an awesome place to be with lots of really nice people. Been going there for 25 years.

Not since the '90's ... Another vote for Aquinnah.
