My wife and I are planning a trip for a week to St Maarten with our two adult girls. What we would like to do is stay in St Maarten one week with the girls and then they would fly back to the states and my wife and I would also leave but we would like to go to Punta Cana Dominican Republic as we have timeshare there. My question is does anyone know of a way we can do this with out flying back to the USA and then to Punta Cana. We would like to go directly from St Maarten to Punta Cana, Any ideas has anyone done this and how did you do it. Dont want to spend a lot of $ and time traveling.
Thank you
Kent

I'm sure it can be done as I have heard of people who live here going there. I don't know which airline they travel or if they have to change flights in Puerto Rico. Best to check with the airlines for confirmation.

I tried a real quick Travelocity search and could not find any flights, so I think you would have to change airlines somewhere, possibly Puerto Rico, as Elizabeth said.

Insel Air flies to Santo Domingo, you might start there. It might also help to enlist the old fashioned travel agent if you know of one or belong to AAA.

I knew a couple of travel agents on the island but they are no longer working in the business.

The best tool for finding flights is Google Flights I am assuming you want a one-way from SXM to Punta Cana, spend some time, and then fly home. As RuralCarrier pointed out, there is a non-stop to Santo Domingo for about $200 one-way. There are also flights from Grand Case at L'Espérance Airport (SFG) on Air Caraibes for a lot more money.

Thank you all for your replys and help after the information given to me I changed my search to fly from St Maarten to Santo Domingo and I did find a non stop flight for $205 and I can also do a Multi City now that I know where I can fly into. <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/handshake.gif" alt="" />

Try pricing a round trip to Punta Cana from SXM also, so that you can have your SXM flights be round trip. Doesn't hurt to expire every combination.

Since it's close to on topic, I'll take the opportunity to mention that I no longer buy round trip tickets. It used to be that round trip offered a discount over one-way each way, but that no longer seems to be true.

By booking one-way, I can fly different airlines if I want, use miles to "buy" two tickets one way and cash for two tickets the opposite way rather than one FF ticket and one cash ticket round trip, and I can buy each leg on a different day dependent on price.
