We arrived this evening and stopped for basics at the Grand Marché after crossing the causeway. I walked into the store and it was a mess. Palletes and carts everywhere. I was trying to figure out what was going on until I got to the cash and saw the sign saying the store was closing Friday. I don't know if this is permanent or temporary. Any locals have more info?

It will not be closed for long. It has been a mess for the past month since we have arrived, but they kept it open. It really should have been closed so they could make the transition to Carrefour. I guess they finally decided to close for a few days to get everything in order. It will be carrying a lot more French products and a greater variety of items.

Where is the tile store? Near the same location? Do you know when they'll reopen there? Thanks.

shopped there yesterday great selection. Grande Marche in Philipsburg has better deals though as they get ready for the switch over.
Carrefour by the way is one of the largest grocery and retail distributor in the world, especially in Europe and the UK.

We just drove by there this evening and the parking lot and road was packed with cars for the Grand Opening. Big neon sign says [color:"red"]CARREFOUR MARKET[/color].

Carrefour is one France's leading supermarket chains. the tend to be a little more expensive than Super U.
They do have a large stock of their own label products, usually made by brand names but cheaper.
The also have a large choice of organic foods, they were the 1st french supermarket to start selling organic products.

Great maps! Another fairly off topic question, but "area" related.....did that new restaurant ever open in Port de Plaisance? I completely forgot to check while there. I think it was a expected to be a cook your own meats/veggies over a grill type place? Middle Eastern or Mediterranean influences? Mélange was the name? SXMNorm first reported these early pictures in Feb 2015...they've made a huge investment to be taking so long to open: New Restaurant – Hoping to open by early March, Melange will replace the now shuttered Peg Leg Pub space at Port De Plaisance. Food will be grilled kabob style over real coals at your table. A mixture of Lebonnese, Iraqi, India, Greek,Turkey foods including some fusion with sauces and spices.

No, that restaurant called MELANGE has not opened yet. We were over there a few nights ago and it is still in darkness. The sign is up and it looks ready to go, but not open yet. They must be waiting for documents or something.

It is a large grocery store with a good selection of products. As Carrefour, it is now carrying a big selection of products from France as well as the other American products it always sold.
