La Bamba in Simpson Bay is closing and this was the last night. No more Category 5 Band and dancing in the sand! I know a few members here will miss this spot. New development coming there soon.

There is a big new development going to be built on the land there. It has nothing to do with the noise. Maybe more noise will be coming in the future! We will have to wait and see. Several other businesses in the area may be affected as well.

I never understood how they stayed in business. There were always just a handful of people there when I patronized the place in June. I'm sorry for the band, tho.

Any concrete word on what kind of development? Speculation in the past was possibly some type of medical/training facility.

It was on the beach down behind Topper's near Atrium and Royal Palm.

Linda, when they first opened a few years ago, they got a big crowd as we have been there and couldn't find a seat. We haven't been there in a while, but they are being forced to close as the land is being redeveloped.

JD, there are several different rumours at the moment, but a medical facility is still one of them. Something will be posted soon I suspect, so stay tuned.

What will be, will be, I guess, but if they build that medical facility there, I have no idea what the traffic will be like!! <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/Sick.gif" alt="" /> The food was terrible there, but we did enjoy the band a couple of times. Hopefully they will play somewhere else.

I remember before it was La Bamba, he was serving drinks and renting out jet ski's. Then Hurricane Omar hit and partially destroyed the place in 2008. I don't know if the same person rebuilt to what it is today, but remember the loud music one year, either 2010 or 2011 at the Atrium. If I remember right also, isn't that the location of a boutique hospital coming to the island?

Supposedly a medical facility, hotel, restaurant, etc. on that small piece of property but the owner of the property no longer has a nephew in power so it remains to be seen if it still moves ahead. The government changed again about 6 weeks ago & the new ministers took office last week. Out with the old & In with the old....SXM government is one big carousel that just keeps spinning & no one ever gets off they just change horses every so often.

Sad to see them go. We're doing a story on the land swap that was / is involved in this. It is unrelated to the American Clinic...but we're also working on an update on that. May be in the next SXM Weekly News if we get the info in time.

Oh No!~ We loved Category 5 there. Years back I heard - a destination/tourism medical facility - eg cheap plastic surgery etc, was being built there.

That is still a possibility, but we will have to wait and see what they will do with all that land.

Best news we could of ever dreamed for!!!.Always wondered why that prime piece of beach was not developed. So glad to hear it is gone. Maybe we can enjoy our patio and get some sleep on Wednesdays and sundays now.Thank to whoever shut it down.

Not sure where "your" patio is but a high-rise might just block your view of anything. How enjoyable would that be?

Sorry, wasn't that what he said?? I remember it. It was kind of a stupid concept, for SXM.
