Greetings! Will be arriving on Sunday. Normally visit SXM during regatta week. Looking at weather report, forecast is for rain 12 of the 14 days we will be on island. Are the brief tropical rains are should we expect to have some days "rained out"? Thanks

Honestly, weather forecasts here are not very accurate.

Since the end of the Hurricane season, trade winds have picked up and the weather has been variable.

The forecast you are mentioning has been very frequent this last month.

Rained-out days are extremely rare, it rains at night very often. In the daytime you can expect a shower or two but nothing that lasts longer that 10 minutes. It also depends where you are on the Island, Marigot for example gets much more rain.

Thanksfor the reply, that is what I was hoping. Our first trip to SXM (18 years ago) was at Thanksgiving. We had rented a soft top jeep type vehicle (roads were not so good back then). The day we went to Pic Paradise there wasn't a cloud in the sky, so we left the top back at our room at OBBR. While we were at Pic Paradise... one lone black cloud came over and dropped a ton of rain. When we got back to the car the cup holders had about 2" of water in them - the seats were soaked for the rest of the week! Still talk about that day!!!

Being a tropical destination!!! almost impossible to try and tell anyone how it will be... Generally it rains for short time and is gone... Unless there is some sort of depression in the atlantic... But it could rain every day for short periods of time... Keep your fingers crossed, and find other things to do if you get a full rain day. have fun

Been on island for last two weeks and had a few showers but no day has been a "wash out". Last Wednesday the forecast was cloudy all day and it turned out to be the sunniest day so far!!

That's why its impossible to predict the weather in advance... Every days forcast is partly cloudy with chance of showers... And yet could be some or not

Expect both during rainy season...weather statistically much better in late winter and early spring when you usually go. Very rarely does it just rain just 10 minutes. As sunshine said. it's impossible to predict..

Thanks for the info. I have a say, "its hard to have a bad day when you wake up and see a palm tree".!

Well, not necessarily. It's kind of like living in SXM, versus only visiting...

Just back and the weather was the usual mostly great with a few showers here and there (thank God it was not one of those rainy patterns). But seriously, the Daily Herald weather report on the inside front cover is very good as far as for predicting winds, choppy seas and chance of showers. I have only received it in the paper version while on island though so not sure if it is available online.

Been here the last week and we've had a few brief showers during the day..a couple downpours at night. But no real rain to speak of. The island needs the rain so who are we to complain. Some overcast skies a couple of days, but overall great weather.
