The gendarmerie appear to be making regular tours on the island. We have seen them in grand case,marigot,orient & on the roads enforcing some of the scooter & motorcycle laws. Also the local municipal vans are out as well. We are happy with what we see.

If the gendarme was making there presence why do the merchants in Grand Case have to hire there own security.

Because it is a visual deterrant to have them present while the business is open. The bad guys will go to a business that does not have on site Security, because they know that when you need the Police, the criminal can be long-gone before the Officer arrives.

They still provide a visual presence, and the more you see, the safer you will be. If nothing else, the individual Officer is working extra hours trying to provide for his family. Would you rather they not be there?
