For weeks the road was real rough and then with rain one could have swum laps in the puddles. Couple days ago there was a front end loader doing some grading. Realy loosened up the soil........a lot. Next day drove in that way and it was a wheel mud slip n slide. Since then a lot more rain. I would suggest anyone headed to south end of Orient to drive to the main entrance then take the frontage road to either Pedro's or Club O parking. At least till the road usability is figured out.

We were there on a cruise stop Oct 28 (only 2 ships) and that road is absolutely the worst ever, just horribly huge holes with lots of mud & water. Our taxi driver went through it but there was a big traffic jam because vehicles have to go through 1 at a time! I agree with suggestion of going through the village. Longer but safer. The holes could swallow a small rental car or get stuck in the mud or tear up the underside of the car!!

That part of the road will eventually be paved as the route to the parking area for the new beach bars on Orient Beach. Please don't ask me when.

Most people are travelling through the village as it is a much better road right to Club O.

We are still entering through Orient village. Perhaps after a few more days of no rain we might try the "muddy" road again. It needs time to dry out.

Hey M. Went in via the dirt road and back out today. Not too bad. Kind of a "central" packed route, some mud on the sides. As long as the opposing vehicle does not want to play chicken the route is not too bad. I, mam, am the one that desperately needs to "dry out" <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/Grin.gif" alt="" />

If its been raining the road in toward the butterfly farm is very slick. Also I was wrong about the gate behind the restaurants on orient. Going toward orient village the gate that is closed at night is just as you get to kontiki so if that stays the same you wouldn't be able to go out through the village from the new restaurants at night.
