On St John, Morgan's Mango has reopened. Hurray! There is a new place in the old Tage/Fatty Crab space called Extra Virgin.
In Red Hook there is a Schwarma (?) place upstairs by the Mini-Mart. The X on St John people are supposed to opening an X on St Thomas in the old Lotus Grill/Blue whatever/Revelry spot, but they seem slow. And the St Thomas Restaurant Group now have a strip mall with Melt (Mexican), Raw (sushi) and Pesce.
In Havensight, Tap and Still are working feverishly to open in the old Scotia Bank spot, next to Local Color. And Greengo's is opening something in the old Havensight Bar, although I have heard it is going to be BBQ, not Mexican.
Everyone is gearing up for season...

I am happy to hear Morgan's is up and running again. It has been one of our must-dos every year for the past 20 years. We missed it during our last visit to STJ.

What is Schwarma like for type of food and price range?
Oh, and how about the taco shack just down the street a bit from market?
Thanks. 60 odd days and counting.

Bob: Schwarma Time has some sort of middle eastern fare. I haven't really looked at the prices, but it is very casual, on the deck at American Yacht Harbor. I don't think it is too expensive.
The taco shack? Do you mean Taco Hell? I think it is still there. Not really on my rounds, as it seems to be a late night spot.

And the Smoking Rooster, a BBQ place operated by the folks who have Greengo's in town, has opened in Havensight.

We are celebrating an anniversary this coming weekend on St Thomas and am looking for suggestions for dinner. Never been on the island and I'd love to find a place with a great view and obviously great food.
We love to do apps and drinks instead of a full blown meal. Any suggestions?
Thanks
Lisa

I like Banana Tree Grill at Bluebeard's (call and get a table by the window). If it doesn't rain(!), Mim's is romantic- right on the water with wonderful seafood.
P.S. I forgot to mention Off the Grid opened at Tillett Gardens. And Margaritaville opened in August.

Does this mean that Off the Grid (food truck) is no longer on the hilltop above Sapphire Village near Sapphire beach?

Bob: They aren't there now, but I've heard they will be back for season.
BTW, had a great dinner at Extra Virgin last night. The place was packed, definitely a reservations only spot!

Now I hear that Off the Grid is concentrating on their Tillett Gardens location. The Sapphire truck is gone. I'm not sure what that means for the Coki Point one.
On the other hand a new Italian place has opened at the old Bollicini/Randy's location. Will report soon.

Osteria IFrasca is the new place on Raphune Hill (the old Randy's spot). Very good Italian (not spahetti and meatballs)and thin crust pizza, all Italian wines.

Okay, so Tap and Still opened yesterday at Havensight. It is quite a bit larger than the Red Hook outlet. Had to have something to eat after Miracle on Main Street and they serve burgers until midnight. It was packed to the rafters...
X on St Thomas has also opened. Haven't been in there.
As an aside, I thought this was the best Miracle on Main Street in many years! A jolly holiday feel. We were singing "How Will Santa Get Here?" with one of the police ladies doing traffic control. The boat parade was terrific. Just a great time of year to be in the Caribbean.
