Cadisco in Orient Bay now has a credit card pump for gas. You can get gas at the CC pump even after the station is closed.

Same price as cash and $1 equals 1 Euro.

Some may be happy to know this.

Ok...not to be a Debbie Downer but if the non-manned CC pumps work anything like those in France you will need a chip and PIN card to use it. The new chip and sign cards do not work in unmanned devices..found that out the hard way

Ugh. Good point. We'll find out next month unless someone posts sooner.

I prefer to be able to use a card at the pump regardless, so that is good news. But what are their normal hours of operation? If they are open until 8 or 9 PM, being able to buy gas after the station is closed might not be too big a deal.

They have long hours closing at 9 or 10 but it is nice not to have to have cash at regular hours too now. They usually have the best prices on the island. I don't know if the other Cadisco stations have the new pumps. The Orient Bay station was just redone.

I've gotten two new chip cards in the past month, but no pins. Guess that's not either issuers priority.

Wouldn't they charge you in euros? If they do, it would no longer be 1€=1$ when paying with credit.

In Canada, we might not have many credit cards that don't charge a forex fee, but at least almost all the cards have a chip, PIN and a magnetic strip so we can use them pretty much anywhere <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/Clapping.gif" alt="" />

We certainly do! It has been a very long time since we have had to sign a credit card receipt. Pay pass is very popular as well for any transaction under $100.

I have Chip and Pin cards, and Chip and Sign cards. These days on SXM, I'm not sure that I would like to be the sole person buying fuel late at night. I'll buy my fuel during the day.

Yup, Canada and many European countries have had chip/PIN for a while. No clue why the US banks went only half way with the new cards....like anyone can read the sig after you sign anyway.

I never could grasp the point...

How does the pump know to charge you dollars instead of euros?
