We are looking at chartering a 2016 Lagoon 450 with DYC in January. When looking at photos of this model boat on line it shows the forward cabins as V berths. We have been told that they are convertible into a queen. The concern is that the berths will not be comfortable if it is made up of multiple cushions to form a queen. Has anyone had any experience with this set up? Anything else you could share about the 450 would be appreciated….Thanks

I doubt very much after a day of sailing swimming and snorkeling ( besides a little partying ) that you won't find the accomadations that bad.

Sailed a 2012 from DYC back in May.
The front berths were comfortable, but taper as they go forward.
The boat was the most comfortable cat we have chartered to date. The fly bridge seats 6 and has deck cushions on the deck in front of the helm.
Our boat had a water maker, so we did not have to schedule refilling tanks and were able to top off the tank each night.
The fly bridge provided great visibility for picking up a mooring and docking.

First time with a cat that has a water maker...wondering what sort of volume will it produce ?

That depends on the specific water maker.

Have had 2 Catana Cats from DYC with H2O makers... never had to top the tanks from shore! 5 people. Normally we top off once with about 100 gals. mid trip, day 4 or 5.

So how did it sail?

The 450 we had would take about 1 hour of running the water-maker to refill the what we used daily, we only had 6 people on board.
You have to run the generator without the a/c on for the water-maker
The boat sailed "heavy". We had 20-25 knot winds and would not point very well. Sails were reefed and we were sailing at about 8 knots max on reaches.

We are on TMM 2016 Lagoon 450 now. Awesome boat. Third time to charter a L-450 and we keep coming back. Favorite things about this boat: the flybridge is huge and seats 8. The seating in front is a perfect gathering place. Big comfortable galley and outside area to eat. We have never had a complaint from our guests that stayed in that cabin about the bed. The beds are all very comfy. We always have the big owners suite since we organize the trips and I sleep with the captain!

Specs on that boat say only 94 gallon water tank -- is this the case? I guess with a watermaker it doesn't need a larger tank?

FWIW, most Lagoon's and I suspect most boats with berths similar in size to a queen bed have at least two separate mattresses which make-up the berth. Our Lagoon 39 has 4 cabins each made with 2 separate mattresses. We don't notice the seam.

That is usually the case because otherwise, you could not get the mattress into the boat. In some cases, the top of the mattress is connected. To remove the mattress, it folds over itself. Functionally similar. Either way, the mattress split is not normally noticeable.

Just came back from the boat show and most of the water makers we saw or asked about were capable of making around 50 Liters/hour. Pretty impressive I thought.

A water maker may be factory or aftermarket installed. The figure you refer to may be common for a factory install.

If you visit the water maker manufacturer web sites you will see much higher options. For example, our watermaker makes over 40 gallons per hour. That's around 3 x the volume.

Assume that each person uses as much as 10 gallons of water per day. If there are 8 people on board. You may need 80 gallons of water per day. That may take up to 6 hours of running time on the water maker.

Some may argue that 5 gallons per day is more realistic. However, when a water maker is on board, nobody is a water miser and consumption increases dramatically. Go to tell the crew not to run the taps and to keep showers short. People may think you are stupid because "there is a water maker" on board and disregard you.

Even if you consume 5 gallons of water per person per day, the watermaker would still need to run 3 hours a day to keep up.
