Already thinking about a trip next spring and considering going to the dark side (i.e. motor yachts). We have friends who've never been the BVI's and want to go, but they're not really into sailing. (And, someday in retirement, we hope to buy a 45-50' motor yacht and become a "looper" so we thought we'd try it out for the next trip.) Google search has come up with Virgin Motor Yachts out of Nanny Cay. They have a few 40-48' motor yachts for bareboat chartering.
Does anyone have any experience with Virgin Motor Yachts? Any other suggestions for motor yacht charter companies?

Julie........in 2013 and 2014 I opted for a power cat because the person I was with didn't feel comfortable with her sailing skills (even though I had her go through 101, 103 and 104) and Marine Max and TMM still have those. I sent you a PM with the pros and cons and my thoughts on those.

I should have clarified that we're looking for more of a (gasp!) "trawler" type boat as that's what we'd buy to do "the loop" someday (fingers crossed!). Looking at a Horizon 48s on Virgin Motors.

We did a trip with some non-sailors on a trawler from Virgin Traders. They were great to work with!

How old are the Virgin Trader 48's? How many waves have they pounded into heavily loaded?

Yo Ron… That would matter why? They’re in the BVI’s, on Drake Lake and not doing a Transat.

I had success chartering with Virgin Traders and many other groups. My Charters on the 56 and 48 were more than ten years ago. Most on this forum do not charter old boats. So how old are they ? Also the motor yachts tend to cover more miles/hours on each trip many of those straight into the wind. Nothing last forever. Just asked how old are they? The boat I chartered ten years ago may be different?

We chartered with Virgin Traders one last minute New Years trip. I am pretty sure we got their last 50' monohull power. We called her the "rust bucket" had anchor problems...and various other nuisances that took some time from our trip (keep in mind I think this was the last of the fleet available) The staff at Virgin Traders however were tremendous! Compared to some of the other charter companies they really are hands on and a real pleasure to work with. I think they have a mix of old and new boats, if you are looking for a trawler I would bet it might be older. Call them and have a chat. I would charter again with them but would ask the age of the boat before hand.

Tradewinds - what did you think of the experience on a trawler vs a sailboat?
I'll ask about the age of the boats. They're offering some pretty good deals for April/May if we book by the end of November.

When we went to Mackinac island this summer we met an adorable older British couple who were on a 35' trawler. They'd done the loop 4 times and we're still loving it. Their boat name: 2 if by C

Thanks for the link! Now I'm reading Captain John's site and looping looks like an amazing trip. Even to do just parts of it would be wonderful.
