A step in the right direction for sure. Maybe some of the other thugs will take notice.

This is why we never had dinner at Mario's Bistro.
Now that they moved to Cupecoy, we might visit them in February.

Wendell,

When did this happen and where. Daytime - nighttime? Any additional facts would be greatly appreciated. Or perhaps a link to an article? Perhaps I missed it since I didn't see anything about this in the DH, not that the on-line version gives you much in the first place. TIA.

Guess I should have looked again before I asked. Thank you, Leona, for posting the link.

'This one I did see at the time it was published but never noticed any updates or additional information. I guess we have to assume the victims are okay.

I hope they catch the third robber in today's article, and much as I hate to admit it, I have no sympathies for the deceased at all.

No sympathy whatsoever here either.
SXM, like France and The Netherlands have very strict gun laws. Not that it stops bad guys from owning them but they know that law abiding residents and tourists can't be armed and they take advantage of it.

I agree and remember that when they want to impose more restrictive gun laws in the US.

Ok, guys, let's leave gun control, especially in the US, out of this conversation.

Thank you, Carol, there are other forums - not travel - that address this problem. <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/Thumbsup.gif" alt="" />

I suppose the armored car drivers are lucky and the citizens lucky that they took care of these guys one of which was part of the "scary bandits" gang.....I wonder if the cops would of ever found them if not for the drivers taking care of it themselves.

I know the gendarmes are armed, but are the police on both sides armed? Was the bicycle cop Benji armed does anyone know? It would seem they would be at extreme dsadvantage if not.

The article doesn't say who shot the bad guys, but the way it is written it leads me to believe it was the Pan Am guards. However, I thought that private security people couldn't carry guns.

The online version wasn't the full version of the story. Yes, the Pan Am people were the ones who shot them. I don't know the answer to the question about the legality of their carrying guns, but this was actually an armored car, not a generic private security person.

Just armored car workers. In South Africa, they rob armored trucks but not with 2 small hand guns. They use rocket launchers hand grenades and machine guns! LOL
What were these guys thinking. No explaining dumb!

Yes.

I doubt that I would take the job if not allowed to be armed.

SXM Island time newspaper has an article on the robbery and a photo of one of the robbers down after being shot. There is also an article on the casino robbery with photos. The link

Wow, what I find even more interesting and telling are the 6 pages of comments and postings following the article. Reasons the island youth don't wish to be seen by friends pumping gas, immigration issues and jobs, education, etc.
