I know there is a lot of area between the two, but we will be staying in Chama, NM in about two weeks, and looking for a "special" restaurant for a "special" occasion. Steak or similar would be nice, but being from New Orleans not especially looking for seafood. We can travel either North West to Pagosa, or South to Santa Fe, but wanted someplace nice without price being an option.

Thanks for any suggestions. <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/dine.gif" alt="" />

As a follow-up question to my own post, does anyone have a first hand review of The Alley House Grill in Pagosa Springs, Co ?

Thanks Bobcat. I did see some reviews online, but was hoping some of our well travelled members here could offer some of their opinions. Thanks again for the link.

Hi

TA reviews are current - and highly favorable for this restaurant - we have been to Santa Fe but can't remember the names of any of the restaurants - too bad you're not going to El Paso, I can recommend a great steakhouse there - The Cattleman's - what a great place -

No, no El Paso this year. Going to Chama, NM for my annual Elk hunt, but get there a week early to try to acclimate to the altitude a little. Wife's BD while there has me looking for someplace "nice", and Chama is very limited.
Thought Pagosa or Santa Fe would be the best bet.

The only thing I recall about Santa Fe is the opera house - picturesque

Opera house?? No thanks. No culture here, only Elk hunting and maybe a little action at the Casino (Camel Rock or Cities of Gold). Thanks for your response. There is a Dairy Queen in Chama. A nice pineapple sundae might be just the ticket for the wife's BD smile

It's tough to beat Geronimo for a celebration dinner. El Farol is down home Santa Fe - the bar can be filled with locals who have been sitting there a little too long - but the dining room is fun and the food is very good.

Thanks Dave. I am leaving in about 2 hours, heading west. Glad I checked this thread before heading out.
I will check them out.
