We (the boss and me) are off to Mauritius in a few weeks time. We have read all sorts of comments about the island and are wondering whether this holiday is going to be a good idea overall. We have read that its a paradice but very expensive. Also we are likely to get fleeced by the locals for trips etc. It appears that the place can be dangerous in places with some hotels warning their guests not to leave the premises at night unless by door to door taxi. On the other hand we have read that the people are friendly and helpfull and the place is amazing. Anybody got any thoughts/experiences?

hi
I go there on business 4/5 x a year - its very safe, the people are generally pretty friendly when you make the effort - but it is expensive! Get out of the big hotels and meet the locals.
Have a great time!
